In native enviornment, Aaron Reisfiled papers mentioned a dry/wet soil cycle, which may/maynot coincide with light levels.
From my experience, the plant responds to the raising or lowering of the levels, and not as much to total time, or total cumulative time, as in Mexico....as down there, near the equator, the time swing is minimal, (although I need to check that out) although I'm sure they interact.
My plants start growing again, (well they just slow in winters 9 hour days) when the winter solstice is passed, Dec 21.......around March through April they go nuts.
Around the end of august, I notice this stretching...(levels in August have then been dropping since June 21) and by the middle of September, (hours are almost 13 then) plants are forming the "cathedral heads", which is my description of the different look the tops get. As we speak, I have 2 inch long racees on about 6 plants or so....
Equinox was on Monday, so to my way of thinking, they felt winter coming quite along time ago.
