When my plant was in a chamber it was air tight and I had no problems at all. Just open it up once a day to exchange the air in the chamber. I don't know if it helps or not but You know that plants breath in what we breath out so I would blow into the chamber several times before I sealed it back up. Mist the inside of the chamber everytime You open it as well as misting the plant itself and You should be fine.

yeah what cs ferraro said exactly.
you would want to poke holes when acclimatizing your plant. the tents i use, are 2l bottles. the good thing is i can take the caps off to begin acclimatizing them slowly. worked out so far.

Strange thing. I did an experiment to test the hardiness of my salvia plants. Instead of removing the tent for a while and replacing it, I just took it off and left it off until I saw wilting or any other stress signs. My plants did not stress at all when I removed them from 85-90% humidity, they just accepted it and are now doing great! I really don't think acclimation is absolutely necessary. I do mist them from time to time, but mine are doing fine without high humidity and I have no hassle with trying to re-create their normal environment. It has been 3 days since I removed the tents and still no signs of stressing. I will start pinching them for maximum branching, I'd like to keep them bushy for height control.

There you go!
Don't mollycoddle those plants to death! I've never had to resort to a humidity tent.
How does NATURE molly-coddle Salvia? Rip a branch off and stomp it into the mud good: Scream "Grow, Dammit!" at it and then ignore it.
POW! Instant tangle of invasive square weed!
Right, Jupe?
I do almost the same thing!
Nope! No Humidity tents here!
Now that you've set your Plant Free it can get that big too.

I always poke 1 small hole in the top of the humidity tent.
Just a small sewing needle.

If you poke a hole in your dome every day for the next month then by the end of the month you could remove it. The only thing I'd add is that you need to have optimal lighting conditions to promote stronger growth before you start this process.

Thats sort of how I acclimate my cuttings. I twice or so daily snip a little more of the plastic bag away, until its pretty much all the way open, then take it off and mist it often. Takes me about a week, but the humidity never really gets higher than 20% here in the SF Bay area.

I think evening humidity cycles up a bit more....inland SF (Oakland) is bone dry in the summer, coastal areas, are dripping wet, lots of room in-between for moderation.
Defenstrate, whatpart are you from?
I'm using a humidity tent for the first time in 5 years, an upside down aquarium I just leave outside....I'm trying 2 Lunas in dirt, as I have been having troubles in water.

You know since I've gotten Melinda, I mist her maybe once or twice a day, I've watered her once and thrown some liquefied worm poop in. I steamed her a little too much--at first, so then I just decided to lay off and mist only. Now obviously, she hasn't grown b/c she was still in her original packaging, but I've transplanted her tonight and moved her to a window that gets filtered sunlight. I've had to trim off the dead leaves (from over humidifying her), but put her in a pot with some 4-4-2 98% organic fertilizer for acid loving plants, next time I change out the potting soil, will probably transplant some mycorrhizae tablets with her!
Now what does all this have to do with a humidity tent? I've never put one on her and I don't plan to. While her leafage is pretty thin, her stalk appears to be strong! Hopefully her new home will give her the nutrients she's probably been craving.
Please everyone say a prayer to the Salvia powers that be...I really want Melinda to be a survivor!! All the advice you've given me has been highly valued..otherwise I wouldn't've spent on this money!! LOL Thanks to all of you for your help and support!

LOL!!! I emailed a photo of your babies to "another-type-of-weed"-growing friend who grows his little girls in a closet (for obvious reasons) with light on a timer. He took one look your amazons and said "Holy $h**" what on earth is he feedin' those things?"
That said, I'm starting to "get" the wisdom of not "coddling" them.

Interesting. You're right, these plants have a HUGE will to survive.
