I just recieved 2 Salvia plants in the mail. They look pretty good and I am getting ready to transplant them in a few days. I will use a soil mix of 2 parts potting soil mixed with 1 part orchid mix = 1part soil to this I will add 1part perlite for a 50/50 soil mix/perlite. For fertilizer I want to use Mirical Grow 15/30/15. I am thinking 1/2 tablespoon/5 gallons water or 10 % solution. I've been told to water every 7-10 days and to mist with distilled water regulary. They will be in a humidity dome for starts. Since it is winter I am going to add some floresence lite at the end of the day for a longer period of light ( at least 13 hours of total light). Does this sound good. This is my first time growing Sally and I appreciate any suggestions and help.

sounds good, you should keep the ferts low for the first month or 2 to let the roots get adjusted. also just water when the soil gets dry, as to rigourous of a watering schedule durring winter could cause root rot if they stay too wet

Yeah, definitely use a lower fert solution at first, 1/2 strength or less. Another important practice is to make sure your pot is set up in way where it can drain into something. If you put your pot in a regular pot holder make sure each time you water that you dump out the water that drains out immediately.

And when you are taking the humidity dome away, do it gradually. First make some holes in it or prop it up a little higher each day until you think its ok to take off.  Good luck!

I transplanted my babies into bigger pots with my soil mix and fertilized with a weak solution.  It's been a few days and I can see that they are looking better already. They are standing straight up and have a real pretty dark green look. I even see a bunch of new leaves sprouting out where the older leaves are or were. I put them into two 62 quart containers, one on top of the other.  So far So good. Spring is around the corner and I expect things to grow like crazy.

What can I say?  Both plants started to turn brown and die so I cloned what I could and quess what! The old stems died clean to the dirt but new ones started to grow right out of the dirt and one of the clones took roots.  Don't give up on your Sallys!!!  They once looked dead but have come around quite nice.  I use only distilled water and only fert. once per month with diluted MG.  Lookin' Good.

awesome man, weve heard of this happening, and its always a frighting thing to watch it die down. im glad your plants are thriving though, you have any pictures of them? so we might see?
