I'm curious about that myself, I'm really not sure what exactly chopping does. I know if the problem is some kind of pest or disease then chopping is probably a good idea. However, if its just normal browning, does chopping really help? If anyone has any insights please post them.

i think its because i finally got it used to my humidity, forgot to tell you guys that. then new leaves you see are all 100 percent ok with ncs humidity levels. but i still keep a tent on it, just dont keep it muggy in there, its only there because the plant is beside an air vent. so maybe the rest of the plant isnt ok with the humidity??? idk but if it needs to go then i will definitely chop it.

plant takes stem nutrients back into itself, as stem dies back( sreally sick plants, or cuttings put into soil, often die all the way back to soil, and then sprout from below...or not Roll Eyes)...

....you can cut stems, just make sure you have sterilized tool...or just cut off 90% of dead stem....and let the rest proceed naturally

Yes, I had one that did that very same thing. It sprouted from the bottom after the main plant died.

when i cut the top off, i shaved the stalk...now the plants support is greatly diminished. and on another note with out starting another thread, this one stalk has exploded with growth, but now i have about 9 inches of main stalk below it that is not even putting out buds of new leaflings. is there any way to promote growth on the rest of the plant? i relly dont want to just cut this off and transplant after it gets long enough.

thats prolly going to be what happenes, as it wont go back to the bottom to start growing upwards you know. I have the same -ish problem with one plant but heres my hyptothesis:  (dissregarding the vertical growth inherent in plants,) I think once the sd gets a nodes proto leaves damaged, or somethign shocks the whole plant, and it has an alternate leaf set thats growing better, then it will abandon that node and it becomes, effectively "dead" or at least dormant untill an extreme need like ALL the leaves being destroyed or something. hypothesus

yeah, if you havent noticed from my post, i lost every leaf on my plant. it stayed a stick for a while and now it is literally exploding with growth, but its all on that one little branch that shot off. sooo, i will just wait until it gets about 4 inches take it off and transplant it, i may chop off the top 4 inches of the main stem and see what it will do, just out of curiosity

i know this is resolved and all but this is normal, the stem receeding, its happened to my plants before, ususlay when i make a cutting (it receeds to the last active node) here is my one plant with no leaves on the whole stem and this is the receeding in action.
