Strain:
Nether, Blosser
Lighting:
48 watt 2 bulb T5 HO fluorescent
Grow Media/Soil Mix:
M.J.R. Blend Organic mix
Fertilizer:
Mexican Bat Guano 10-1-2, Rhizotonic, Nitrozyme
Temperature Range:
68-78
Humidity:
40-50%
Started From:
Clone
Start Date:
N/A
Other Details/Images:
These are the strains I have been working with for a little while. Both are doing great and have been topped for branching out. No humidity tents are used in my setup. They are misted everyday and are given a diet of bat guano, seaweed extract and vegan root stimulator. Absolutely NO pesticides of any kind are used, nor will they be used in the future. I will only use biological (insects) defenses such as predator mites/lacewings. Their water source is always reverse osmosis water rated at 10 ppm.
I have been working on rare plant species for many years with great sucess, but this is my first attempt at Salvia Divinorum. I am planning to keep you guys updated as my two specimens progress as well as any new plant species that I acquire. Right now in my indoor ethno-garden I have 2x Salvia's, 1x Catnip, and am trying to germinate some sceletium tortuosum (kanna) seeds. Anyways, I hope you guys like the pics, I always put the best care I can into my plants and I think it shows.

I'm growing salvia and cat nip at the moment too. I enjoy both the plants, I find it interesting with cat nip the changing of the leaf pattern. like the first set of leaves that popped up were round and heart shaped, the next got more texture and now I have some that look like a classic Christmas tree shape.

If I remember correctly, the heart shaped leaves that first pop out of the soil are called cotyldons(spelling). I know what you are talking about, how certain plants progress in their growth cycle is truly amazing. Take cannabis for example, at first the cotyldons pop out, then single fingered leaves, then three fingered, five fingered etc. The smell that catnip gives off is really cool too. A strong minty-like smell. I'd like to grow kratom in my garden but I have heard that they are really hard to keep alive outside their natural habitat. One thing that made me think twice about kratom was that in less than favorable growing conditions it will lose potency.

Sweet. Its great to have you here. I've been wanting to get some good comparisons among the different strains of Salvia. You should definitely keep us posted on your plants. You might want to start a grow log...I think this post is most fitted for that section. Would you like me to move it there?

woot annother kanna grower! I just germinated some myself, and they are about to put out thier second set of leaves, dont beleive the hype about them being low germination seeds, of the seeds i started about 70% of them germinated. i have one pot with about 7 shoots comming out, gunna be a crowded little town. I was so excited too! they came into my dreams and were crazy! they looked like how a jet engine fan looks, many many parrelel flat peices attached at the center, not what it looks like full grown but, theres more to the dream.... WEEEE excited good luck with her man, she doesnt seem to be too picky or high maintinence.

Actually, I wouldn't mind moving it to that section. Most of the rare plants that I have grown are all ethnobotanical plants in nature. Some include Lophophora, Psychotria Viridis (for ayahuasca) Ephedra, Mimosa hostilis, papavar somniferum(poppies),Cannabis, and a few others. I would like to grow Kratom, Lagochilus Inebrians and maybe some peruvian torch. I seem to have somewhat of a green thumb. I have always been fascinated by psychoactice plants and so have worked to develop a relationship with them. There is nothing like using a plant that you grew yourself, for those that do not grow their own gardens I cannot explain. I have had alot of experience in botany as well as horticultural science which has helped me to become what I love.

Where did you get the nether strain cutting?
As the name implies, I recieved this cutting overseas from the netherlands in a place called a smart shop. It came broken from the main stem and I thought I was going to lose it. Luckily my experience and a little luck payed off and it rooted. As you can see it has multiple shoots from topping, I am going to make both these strains as bushy as possible to limit vertical growth.

Hmmm, I wonder if it is actually a new strain. Did they say if they grew it from seed? I was thinking, I dont ever know what the rules are for establishing a new strain (if there even are any)...does anyone have insight into this?
I moved this topic, you should fill in the grow log details hazyshaman.

I am updating this grow log as I am sure you guys would like to see the progression of my strains. I have done ALOT of pruning on the Blosser because it just went wild and was putting out massive amounts of leaves. I have not pruned the nether yet as you can tell, but is has also been going wild. They must love their environment and they get plenty of direct light from the T5's. As far as the Nether strain, it was started by the shop owner from seeds obtained from Daniel Siebert. It has been grown and cloned for over a year in that shop. It's a vigorous little strain with a peculiar leaf pattern dissimilar from any other strain of salvia I have seen. According to a friend of mine it also has a high salvinorin content of about 0.35%.
I gave this particular strain it's name because of where it was obtained, no name was given by the creator.
Well here's the Nether

Nice looking plants, most unusual leaf characteristics dissaoear in time, juvenile plants have about 4 gazillion growth habits
but all plants look identical at full maturity.
One should be careful about naming of "strains", if Siebert recognizes it, (at Sage Wisdom.com) its good to go, otherwise....not so.

A new update of my babies finally! I have been quite busy lately and so have not been able to snap some pics. I have had several harvests since the last post and these things are growing crazily out of control! I harvest, they come back quick, I harvest again, they come back bigger! LOL. In the small amount of time I have been growing sally, I have harvested 12 grams dried from the blosser and around 9 grams for the nether. When I harvest, I harvest only the biggest leaves, leaving all others to mature more completely. I have topped multiple times encouraging a dense, compact, short plant. I have not encountered ANY problems whatsoever and the only nuisance I have are fungus gnats (hate those things). I think I have uncovered a way to keep their numbers down though! I once left a lubricating oil container near the plants which had some residual oil still on the container. The Gnats got stuck to the container and died in BIG numbers, they covered the oil container! My theory is that if you leave a small dish or glass with a little bit of vegetable oil, the gnats will fly to it thinking it is a water source. They will get trapped in the oil, suffocate and die. Try it, I think you'll be surprised.
Anyway, here's some pics of my sally plants.

The Nether plant was just recently pruned and harvested from so it has lost considerable size.
The clone was rooted in a gel medium and then transplanted into the pot you see it in. This is a new addition to the sally family from my Blosser mother. I had made another clone of the Blosser for my mother too, she likes it for ornamental reasons.
Hope you guys like them, they have really been flourishing!

All of the setup information is at the very top of the page. Since I am very conscious about my health and the health of all those who use my herbs I only grow organic with bat guano and seaweed extracts. I do not allow any form of pesticides to touch my plants. They are given reverse osmosis water rated at 10 ppm and ph'd to 6.5.
I also mist them with the same reverse osmosis water every so often. Their light source really allows them to flourish with 4000 lumens and a 10,000K color temp. The lights are T5 HO fluorescent bulbs which use less energy than conventional T12 or T8 bulbs and also put out more light. You have got to see how quickly their root system develops with this kind of light! It's really amazing. The Seaweed extract speeds up their metabolic processes naturaly by adding cytokinins (plant hormones) to the medium. This really makes their growth accelerate. The bat guano I use is mexican bat guano 10% nitrogen 1% phosphorus and 2% potassium which encourages strong vegetative growth. The light cycle is 18/6.

I have decided to update the progress of the Nether strain. Most of my focus on previous posts were on the Blosser, leaving the Nether in it's shadow. The Nether now has the spotlight and has grown beautifuly since it's last clipping session. As you can see the time lapse between the last pic updates and now, the Nether has come back with fury!
I have not taken any more pics of the Blosser as of yet because it just recently got a clipping and is quite bare. The next update after this one will be of the Blosser and the Blosser clone. Hope you like the pics, although my only camera is a shitty camera phone. Sry.
