Hi i have a question if anyone serious can answer. If i want to make 1 or more salvia plants from my one plant do i have to have at least 1 node on the cutting in the dirt for it to work properly or would it just root off of the stem. Pleas advise, Thank You

From what I've read it seems that it will just grow from the stem itself, but for higher results you should have 3 nodes on the cutting although it has been done with as few as only 1.

Thanks for the info and if anyone else would like to comment about it that would be great also.

I've never rooted in soil, but with my 2 liter DWC system I have done many successful cuttings with only one node on the bottom and the top two leaves. However, I don't recommend this. Clones that small take a REALLY long time to get going. It is by far a much to wait until you have 3 nodes or more and then take a cutting. The cutting will start to grow much faster and have a better chance at surviving.

I have 2 real small clones that have been growing in soil for at least a month now. They are still smaller than the clones that I took just a couple weeks ago and have only been growing a week and a half in soil. It's my advice to take a bigger clone. It will grow much faster for you in the long run.

Its Paradoxic's rooting in water post.

He has one for soil too, but I found this first. That should tell you.

Happy growing

Seamac and I had a back and forth  discussion on this....I think we both agree that 6" is minimum, at least for fast growing, smaller than that, it has to be done very carefully.

Fat, thick multi-noded stems....3-4 sets if possible are better than a lanky stretched out1-3 node cutting.
The amount of effort it takes to wait for a weak cutting to take, and then get growing and thriving...(could be months) ...on the other hand, waiting for the plant to get healthy enough to take a prime cutting can also take months....but at least you know success is pretty much guaranteed.

Any cutting, however, when given the proper conditions that salvia thrives in, can turn into a monster plant. Shocked Shocked  THATS whats so cool about growing these guys..... Grin Grin
