Brown has already taken over another node site, and the stem is really turning brown.   Is it stem rot? why is it dieing?

Mites, fungus, boy your plant has it all.  In your fungus post the top of the plant was just a stalk.  That stalk will die down to the next node, but probably should have been clipped off above the node instead of making it rot down to it.  You may have to clip off any rot and hope new growth sprouts at that node, but you must fix the cause of your problems first.  A clean clip will heal fast, but rot will spread faster and not stop at a node.  Recent pics?

I can't, my computer is full of virus' and wont let me upload any photos.  Complicating.

The stalk is shorter now because the top of it died and shriveled up, so I cut it off, so you're saying I'll need to cut off any Brown so it wont infect the rest of my plant?

Not brown, wet slimy black.  The brown is dead and dry, black would be rot and spread.  Many things could cause it to brown.

Yeah I agree...brown means plant is taking green FROM the stem, and using it to help itself under ground....slimy black comes from the ground up, or it freshly cut cuttings...(I just lost two to this, due to abuse of some sort on my part)

..I have plants whcih browned all the way down to  ground after transplant, and then last nodes popped green....If initial transplant is "not good" I think a set of roots dies, and it takes a week or two, or three, or four...(who knows?) for a stressed plant to regrow and restart itself......I had some plants which froze on plane flight, it too  one month for them to come alive.....(I actually took pictures of the whole drama, they  flowered 9 months later....now I can't remember which pot they ended up in...."Bongos Blossers from Japan")

Th is the part where you just have to stick the plant somewhere no too hot, not too bright, and walk away....maybe water it every few weeks or so....it will either pop or not.......

Don't forget, there is alot of things going on underground that we can't see.
