Probably nutrients siphoning back down the rope.  You are not watering the plant's pot too are you?  That would defeat the purpose of the wicking system I would think.  Stop watering and let everything balance itself out.

Probably pigment off the rope or whatever you used for the wick system. What kind of rope did you use and does it have any chemicals on it. This could be fatal to your plant if the rope has some hazardous chemicals in it. Try another type of rope that is organic or something.

Hmm. I don't really no my rope compostitions but I would say that looks relatively safe. What system of wick are you using because I might have an idea of why its yellow. If the wick system is in the soil it could just simply be that the rope is soaking up some minerals from the soil . nothing harmful probably benificial.

Could also be algae if your reservoir is left open.

Don't worry about the rope, it's definitely just from the soil in the pot.  I've had the same exact problem.  A few times I was worried the wicking wasn't working so I watered the plant a little.  Instantly, the yellow carried down the rope and diffused into the water.  I don't think it's harmful, but I always change the water after, just in case.
