Again, I’m reading a poorly researched paper, and it contains the claim that a particular site offered for sale a package of “0.5g of 10x powder for sniffing”. I assume that it is possible to get effects by inhalation, but that it would be relatively inefficient. Are there really sites that recommend this method of exposure?

I doubt sniffing anything but purified Salvinorin A powder would work. I hate insufflation, personally, I think it's gross and painful. I know you can plug pure salvinorin A and have some sort of effect (it's actually a good one, too) so I would imagine snorting the chemical would work.

But, sniffing a 10x powder would be brutal.

I could see how that would work but as said it would be rough. Salvinorin A IS absorbed through mucous membranes which consist of pretty much the whole respiratory system (thus the basis of how smoking works). In retrospect less of the Salvinorin A would be lost to the burning effect of smoke so if you got the same amount of Salvinorin A into your lungs and respiratory system it would probably absorb slower than smoking but have a more profound and longer lasting effect. This is just my speculation though so who knows.
