I am also wondering this. From what I have read I gather that the effects of the quid method are not as strong but last much longer. But I have only smoked Salvia so far.

I think it depends on how many leaves you use.  I heard you should get 30 leaves, 15 in each quid.  Chew on one for 15 minutes or so, and then spit it out and put in the other one.

I've chewed dried leaves that I first soaked in sugar water. I made three quids, about 3 g (~9 leaves) each. Each quid was chewed for 15 minutes (the last one for about 10 minutes).

The experience was indeed milder than when smoked. I found that I could control when to enter dreamland and when to snap out out it.  I plan to do it again, but this time chewing only one larger quid -  7g (~20 leaves).  The advantage with chewing leaves is when you feel you've gone far enough then just stop chewing and spit it out.  After10-15 minutes, the effects become noticeable, but I think that after 30 minutes you've pretty much chewed all the salvinorum A out of the quid, so no point in chewing longer than that.

I'll report on if this larger dose has significantly stronger effects. I found the first experience very pleasant. Another curious thing was that I noticed a slight aphrodisiac effect - so I might try to encourage my wife to join me the next time  Shocked .

How do you consume the quid? I have tried two methods. The first time i attempted to consume salvia orally, i placed the entire quid (8 leaves) in my mouth and chewed it gently for around 20 minutes. The second attempt involved rolling the quid, taking small bites from the quid, chewing on the mass of each bite for a minute or two, and then spitting everything out in order to take another bite. The second method proved to be less enjoyable (due to the bitterness) but more effective.
I want to figure out a way to mix salvia with spices or honey or anything strong enough to cut its bitter chlorophyll flavor.

I believe Terance McKenna and his wife briefly talked about this subject in a documentary shortly before his death. I'm thinking it was a ridiculous amount of leaves he recommended. I will get the link to this.

My plan for the next time I chew the leaves is as follows:

  • Since (so far) I have access only to dried leaves, I need to soak them in water first. Putting some sugar in the water really helped to cut through the natural bitterness of the leaves. In fact, the last time I had forgotten that I had used  sugar water and thought "hey, this isn't so bad" as I enjoyed the sweet, somewhat minty taste.
  • I divided the ounce of dried leaves into 4 parts for making into quids, so each quid is made from ~ 7 gm of dried leaves.
  • I plan to only chew one quid.
  • I'll put the entire quid in my mouth and chomp down gently about once every 5 seconds or so. I try to keep the quid under my tongue or against my cheek in between chews. It is only when I feel that I've had enough (between 15 - 30 minutes) that I'll spit the entire mass out.  I believe that this method gets the most salvinorin A out of the leaves in the quickest amount of time.
