How safe is it to use Hardware store VM&P Acetone and Naphtha when making extracts? I will soon be turning more than 100 grams of salvia leaf into 5X and 10X and was wondering if i should be worrying about contaminants. How do i ensure that the final product, regardless of the source of my solvents, is as safe as can be?

pour some on a sheet of glass and wait till it drys. if there is any residue then you might want to rethink about using it.

remember though these are solvents and they are polar liquids, any surface oil (on the glass) will be disturbed when doing this test and may lead to the belief that it was originally in the solvent. long story short clean the glass thoroughly before assuming that any "residue" was left behind was from your solvents.

Have fun.

VM&P Naphtha is very, very good.

In Canada, Ronsonol Naphtha is very good. In the US, Ronsonol Naphtha isn't so good. I'm not sure why the formula varies... But I believe the Canadian Ronsonol is rebranded shellite.
