Basic Info On Salvia divinorum

What is it?
Salvia divinorum is a rare perennial herb from the Sierra Mazatec region of Mexico. It has been used for healing, meditation, and exploring consciousness because of its psychoactive effects. It contains the extremely potent salvinorin A, which is thought to be the most potent naturally occurring hallucinogen. Mazatec shamans and healers have used the herb throughout their history and it has only been available in the US since the mid 1990's.

How is it used?
Traditionally it was used for healing and ritual by the Mazatec people. Typically it was ingested in a ceremonial manner orally by either chewing leaves or making a tincture-type mixture of leaf juices. Now, in the US and all over the world, the most common method of ingestion is smoking. Leaves are dried out and smoked in a pipe or bong. For some it is difficult to obtain desired effects with plain leaves and they need extracts which are also sold online. An extract is enhanced potency leaf and strengths range from 5X to 25X. 5X strength extract is 5 times stronger than normal leaves, so 1 gram of 5X extract is equivalent to 5 grams of normal leaves. Another way to ingest Salvia is to chew quids (sublingual ingestion), which are bundles of fresh leaves. The user must chew up the leaves and hold them in their mouth to be absorbed through the inside of the mouth.

What is an experience like?
A Salvia divinorum experience is very unique and different from that of all other psychoactives. There are six different experience levels ranging from mild to extremely strong (Read more about the 6 levels here). A strong experience obtained from smoking can produce a full visionary state where the user enters a completely new reality which they believe is real and may be unable to control their body. Common experiences include a sense of profound understanding, living as a inanimate object, loss of ego, traveling to other worlds or through time, and uncontrollable laughter. Most find this state overly intense and sometimes become overwhelmed with fear but others find this to be a useful state of consciousness inducing bliss or understanding. Primary effects from smoking usually last for around 5-10 minutes. Chewing produces a longer, less intense effect that usually lasts around 30-60 minutes.

Salvia divinorum is available to buy all over the Internet in various forms. Some form include dried leaves, extracts, tinctures, and live plants. Hi and welcome to the forums. Your post would probably be better situated in the "Experiencing Salvia" forum.

But anyways, it really depends on you. 30X is very very powerful, especially to really sensitive people.

You need to try a really smalll dose of it first, we're talking like less than a tenth of that gram just to see your tolerance. Then you can decided how much to up it from there (trip twice as strong? 4 times as much?).

Yeah, thats always a good method. Its tough to gauge right off the bat, usually it takes some experimenting to get the right dose. Also, a lot of the time extracts aren't always as strong as they advertise, especially when it seems like a really good price.

When you do have a strong experience, I would love to read your trip report.

With anything >20X SD it becomes very hard to gage the dosage. It is very easy to hit a Level 6  with such. Each person responds to SD different at different times, also. That tends to toss a wild card into the deck as it were too. 
In other words; effects may very.

Also keep in mind that you can have a trip that includes part of a level 6 while later as you come down some you enter into a level 4 or 5. So if you remember some of the trip but part of it is completely blank, you probably hit a level 6 at some point and should lower your dose some. Just mess around, safely and responsibly though

Ya, that is why I try to stay within that magic 3 to 5 level zone.  That level 6 black  out is just pointless.

I made the mistake of taking a large hit on my first salvia experience, it involved a 20X concentration. I was sitting on the couch with my wiener dog, when I took a bazooka hit of the 20X and shot straight to Level 6. My wife, unaware that I was trying the salvia, heard an odd sound and entered the room to investigate. She found me slumped on the couch drooling and unresponsive, and thought that I had suffered a stroke or something. I awoke disoriented to find her grabbing my cell and racing out the door in tears. I looked at the wiener dog and said "What's her problem?" He replied "Hell if I know, but you'd better calm her down before she does something stupid!" I raced outside to find her frantically trying to dial the phone and nearly incoherent from crying. I might point out at this juncture that she almost never cries, so I knew that I had scared her rather badly. It took some major scale damage control to calm her down.

I've heard that those weenier-dogs make good ratters, and the Germans may well have bread them for that very thing. Have you ever seen an obese one before? Their stomach drags on the ground. A very sad scene, indeed.    Poor doggy.
