Salvia’s Popularity May Thwart Medical Use
By KEVIN SACK and BRENT McDONALD
September 8, 2008

Decent article, remarkably unabaised. It brings up a potentially detrimental account of a man in New York who accidentally shot himself in the head 10 minutes after taking Salvia.

Parent Discovers Child Has Hallucinogen Available Legally
Thursday September 27, 2007 11:41pm

Fresh propaganda out of Lynchburg. First of all, they say that Chidester kid died while using Salvia: completely untrue considering that it would have been really hard for him to kill himself. It also has your ignorant cops thinking that any drug is bad as well as parents ignorant of its effects on the body.

Ingredient in incense being used as alternative to LSD
9/27/2007 9:56 AM
By: Britt Godshalk

Typical biased article with LSD comparison and ignorant police officer. Says that someone could get in a car while on Salvia (not going to happen). However, they do mention that the bill to ban it in New York passed in assembly and next month it will show up in Assembly.

Salvia: A Potent and Legal Drug Gaining Popularity with Young People
9/25/2007

This is a horribly biased and inaccurate article. They confirmed that Brett did indeed have a history of depression. He was also not addicted and when his parents confronted him, he stopped using it (as this article fails to mention).

Blame salvia
9/6/07
For the time being, Salvia remains cheap, accessible and strictly recreational, obscure enough to escape widespread connotations, but potent enough to make some wonder why it is still legal.

The typical Texan biased salvia report. It has it's words like "strictly recreational" and "recreational exhibitionism." It also has the famous Brett Chidester in there.

Once again, Bret used Carbon Monoxide to kill himself. Salvia divinorum did not kill him. He DID NOT OD on SD, nor has it been proven that he was on it when he died. Although I feel sorry for his parents, they are barking up the wrong tree.    Why don't they go sue the maker of the grill he used, or the tent he was in at the time. Of course, I suspect that he did not really mean to kill himself, anyway. I suspect that he was as we medical people say; "Acting out to call attention to himself, and to indicate that he needed help." Carbon monoxide, slashing the wrists and pills are the usual methods of suicide, or attempted suicide used in such cases. People that are more serious about really killing themselves use guns, hanging or they slash their own throats. Those are sure fire methods of doing oneself in.

Think about it. Bret set up a tend and a grill in the garage of his fathers house. That is the very place his father could find him when he drove home. His father just found him too late. By the time he got home, his some was already dead.

Yeah, I hate how news articles keep referencing it. They just say the facts really: "He committed suicide, and was a frequent user of salvia divinorum." It's ridiculous cus it obviously hints at sally like it caused his death.

And I need to find where it said this, but I think Mrs. Chidester retracted her statement about salvia affecting her son's death..cus if that's true, now the media is just exploiting her and her mistakes.

Early on I, also, recall some statement she made about her son may have wanted to try Salvia to help with his depression. Like as if he was depressed to begin with.    Even with Pharmaceutical antidepressants like the SSRI class drugs, people under 18 years old have been found to not fair well on them. Younger depressed people fair better with counseling.

I saw that article about them trying to sue, people will sue for just about anything these days. It seems like if they win they will likely put that company out of business.

Dominaduro, I think instead of posting each article in full as a new post I think should make it all one post and just keep editing. Also just post a link to the article and maybe a short description, not the full thing. This way when people make comments it wont get confusing, plus theres really no reason to have the whole article here when you can just click a link.

Well for now I'm gunna wait until the new version of the site is up before I make you a Salvia Law forum mod. However, if its your post you can delete it (I already deleted those though) just click EDIT post and then find the checkbox called Delete this post.

Yeah I try to be chill runnin this site, all members deserve my utmost respect as all the site really is is its members.

I too am so sick of every news article referencing that foolish kid. I added a new article about how the feds are now considering a federal ban. Was everyone aware that they are doing this, if not be sure to read up.

[EDIT] I touched up the post a little bit too, I hope you dont mind I'd like to keep it in that format when new articles are added. Also as I think you were already doing, we should order by date, most recent news at the top.

Sounds good my friend Smiley

Yeah I heard about it in that same group (I think I'm subscribed).

I doubt it'll go through, unless they feel like making up shit about salvia (which they easily can). Like half of the 8 criteria are about abuse which salvia so far has no evidence of habit-forming activity. Maybe this report will be good, at least they'll convince themselves and the public that salvia is harmless (except from the average idiot....like that guy who drove over a bridge and smoked salvia).

I certainly hope so, and yeah thats the way I look at it...I'm pretty optimistic. However, many people on other forums are not, they think just like other psychedelics that were once legal, Salvia will become outlawed based on inappropriate terms.

We will see, do you have any idea about how long it usually takes to make a decision?

@ the newest article 9/6/07

OMG, another one of these insanely biased articles from Texas. Its only sentence against the entire articles "negative salvia" tone is:

Quote
Wacky as it is, Salvia exists as one of the last few "legal highs," although according to researchers, Salvia has great potential as a medicinal drug.

What a ridiculous statement, the 'although' is telling me that 'legal highs' don't have medicinal uses. What about vicodin? dxm? dramamine?

I just can't believe the ignorance coming from the articles in Texas. Oh wait, yeah I can, it's Texas!

LOL, them silly Texans. "Hay Jeb, pass me another glass of that DXM laced vodka!"  Tongue  Alcohol is a legal drug too, and it actually has some medicinal uses.  Roll Eyes Of course, from my standpoint alcohol seems more like a medical curse. After all alcohol is still the #1 drug to be associated with ER visits.  Shocked

BTW on a related note, how many people out there have committed suicide after a tear in their beer  Cry night at the bar. After which they either purposely drive their car into a wall or such as that, or put a bullet in their head after they get home? Untold numbers I fear, so why does the media want to keep up with blaming SD for the death of a kid that killed himself using carbon monoxide?!  Roll Eyes

I think it's just the only thing they've got on SD. Even though this report is ultimately a dud, there is literally nothing else bad about salvia that's been officially reported.

Kinda sad, but good when certain politicians can recognize it (like in California). Delaware on the other hand..

http://www.salvia-divinorum-scotland.co.uk/mediastories/government/brettslaw/delaware/index.htm

That conversation shows how ignorant the Senator was of Salvia in general and just pretty much stopped responding when she ran out of things to pull out of her ass.

Yeah, it is really the only thing they got on sally. However, they sure throw around a ton of misinformation about it thats makes it seem like they have more on it.

However, in Delaware I think since that Brett incident happened even a competent politician would have too much pressure on them to not illegalize it. Those parents went crazy to the point where any politician would seem like a Nazi to not take some kind of action. And the truth is when it comes to drugs (especially psychedelics), really what can you do besides ban it to make people feel as if you 'did' something about the 'problem'? However, I suppose a politician may be able to get away with a under 18 restriction.

I just added a story (at the top). It was the first link that came up on google when searching 'Salvia divinorum news.' Its one of the best articles written about it that I've read. Its old, it was made back when they didnt even know that salvinorin A is a kappa-opioid antagonist. Lots of great, pro-salvia interviews and very comprehensive. Give it a read, it makes me feel good...and it was from a big name news agency, ABC :-O
