Is anybody else seeing these wildfires? Daniel Siebert is from Malibu where it's hitting pretty hard...hopefully him and his house are fine.

All our troops and national guard are in Iraq...we have no one to fight the fires and save people AHHHHHH!!!

Hes fine, still living at his house. I only know this because yesterday I got an email from him about the salvinorin A I am ordering from him for my research.

Those fires seem pretty intense. A couple years ago there were some really bad ones in the mountains near where I live.

I'll be posting more about it when I get Salvia Lab up and running. But basically I'm doing research on the metabolic pathway that Salvia divinorum uses to biosynthesize salvinorin A. I got hooked up at a lab at the university near where I live. Right now I have plants growing and I have been taking samples and doing some preliminary analyses. I do a simple chloroform extract (I have tried other solvents too, but choroform seesm to work best), filter it, and then put it through the LCMS, which is a really expensive liquid chromatographer and mass spectrometer.

Its really exciting, in the last extraction I was able to clearly identify salvinorin A and C. Right now I am about to put another, more concentrated extraction through the LCMS and see if I can see more stuff. Eventually I am aiming to investigate the genes that are responsible for the metabolic processes that biosynthesize salvinorin A. I will probably be doing this study in collaboration with some researchers at the University of Mississippi and hopefully get a paper published.

I emailed him. I got a reply from him.

He is OK, as am I, and Jupe, and my friend HV111 in orange county.

I'm in the North Park area of San Diego. It was almost a million people evacuated I'd heard: 10,000 slept at Qualcomm Stadium (Down the street from me) last night. As we drove by there today I noticed about 50 Semis from Wal-Mart parked  in the Stadium Parking lot. (They donated stores worth of stuff ... )

We have to deal with really filthy air right now.

But All gardens will survive.


Paradoxic: LOL! I also wrote him that there were a lot of his "Sagewise" members here and some really decent research work was going on!

And then find out he knows you by your real name because you ordered Salvinorin A from him! LOL!

I wonder if he knows you as "Paradoxic" also?

We are - all of us - very dedicated to finding out more about this miraculous plant: each of us brings something different to the table. I'm starting my Studies of Salvia divinorum sexual reproduction again this year: the plants have signaled me it's time to think about pollination again. I don't mind hand pollinating the ones the hummingbirds miss.

I ought to get some really stellar photos for his book this winter ...
