I was just wondering if anyone has tried to used the honeybee extractor for salvia to get the oils out of the plant material. I have used the butane method with another well-known plant before and have gotten great product from it. If my estimate is correct, you could possibly have the most potent salvinorin content of any extract.

I'm conflicted here... Because the polarity of isobutane, nbutane, acetone and ispopropanol alcohol are all in the range of 3-5, one would think butane *would* work in this situation... However, it's a known non-polar molecule, to which salvinorin A is not soluble in...

I think the benefits gained in hash oil extractions are due to the extremely cold temperatures, and the tendency for other products, such as chlorophyll, not to dissolve easily in superchilled nonpolar solvents... It is however, not the most efficient process, as a second or third extraction can be performed, with increased contamination, but similar cannabinoid content.

A frozen acetone extraction will be much more pure (order of magnitudes purer) than a room temperature extraction, even if no purification steps are taken.

Hmmm, good point. I was thinking about this the other day as I was enjoying some "goo" as we call it. I just had never heard of anyone ever using this method for salvia and thought it was worth a try. I will probably just stick to pharmaceutical grade 99% isopropyl alcohol.

I'm an acetone man myself actually. I get 99.99% USP Acetone for 8$ a liter. Cheaper than the hardware stores, and evaporates almost 3x faster!

Check eBay.
