I have a question that I am sure I have the answer to but I would like further opinions from different people. My question is about ethnobotanical shops that sell things like salvia, kratom, blue lotus etc.
Why do these companies label all their products as "not for human consumption"? My theory is liability issues, it's them shielding themselves from customers taking legal action in case someone has an adverse reaction to an herb. Their arguement in a court hearing would be "the item was clearly labeled as not for human consumption, it is not our fault the customer misused the product". This is just my theory, I would like to hear your's just in case I may be missing something. I do not want to use a product that is not designed to be in my body.
What are your thoughts?

i think this may have been touched upon somewhere else on this site.......
ethnobotanical sites have to label their products "not for human consumption" so they dont have to go through the FDA to sell their products.
think about it: the FDA pulled vioxx out of the pharmacy because it was giving everyone heart attacks. Vioxx, when used as it was supposed to, was harmful. When you buy whipped cream, you are buying a dairy product approved by the FDA for human consumption as well as a propellent (nitrous oxide- a scheduled drug) which, in this application is not meant for human consumption. The FDA knows that it is selling you a drug and can only do so with the assumption that you will not huff the propellant in the whipped cream can.
when ethnobotanical sites sell things as incense, they are telling the FDA that they are not selling drugs. Smoking salvia is a misuse of incense, not the consumption of a drug.

That really clears things up. I thought it was something of that nature. I just ordered some "private reserve kratom" leaf from iamshaman and that is why I asked. Do any of you guys have experience with the private reserve kratom leaf that they sell? It is the most expensive and so I wanted to give it a try. I usually use around 6-7.5 grams of the wild kratom from sage wisdom, how does the private reserve kratom compare to other types? I am more interested in the sedative/analgesic effects of this tea as I have severe pain from time to time and kratom REALLY gets rid of this. Thanks for any replies.
