Yup it can be tricky to maintain individual freedoms, while also maintaining the online communities positive/friendly atmosphere. I know this from experience. Its all about balance. Usually these sorts of issues arise more frequently in communities of, um, stupid people, sounds kind of elitist, but its true

But of course it can happen in any community, especially those that undergo very rapid expansion in numbers... where the "community vibe" can't keep up, and you effectively end up with 80% of the members being random strangers who don't feel much connection to, or understanding of, any of the others.... I think gradual steady growth is more reliable, as it builds more friendships and respect amongst the members, and so can absorb/repel aggressive/negative newcomers. Which then avoids the need for any power trips on the part of the admins etc. Just my thoughts on the matter of course
