I started my account on this forum early on in June when I first got my plant, and never even saw this message board.  So I'll kind of introduce myself now:  my screenname is "bifster" (bif is a nickname), my real name is Elizabeth.  And being called bifster sounds silly to me, so call me Elizabeth.   Smiley
I like cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, writing, etc etc.  AND most of all, I love talking to new people since I'm (sadly) on the computer over the summer a LOT.  So feel free to hit me up if you want to know more about me, have a question about my plant, or are just bored and feel like talking.
The end!

Hey Bifster how ya doin?

I think it's cool that you like to garden, cook, knit and sew.  I enjoy the same kinds of activities (but never really tried knitting... to me sewing is one thing, but then playing with long needles like Granny from the Tweety and Sylvester cartoons would just be too far.  Since I'm a guy I mean, not that it's for old people.  I would resemble Jonathan Winters in his famous drag getup. lol.  I'm sure you would look kick ass while knitting, plus you could stab your enemies in the eye with them.  Anyway, welcome to these forums.  Smiley

*edit* Here's a clip of Jonathan Winters as Maude Frickert: http://metube.blogspot.com/2006/07/jonathan-winters.html

Salvia goatse'd me!  Warn your children!  It's actually a good reason to keep it legal, your friendly neighborhood drug pusher doesn't do age verification.

Doing alright, thanks!
You should definitely try knitting out!  Don't worry, it won't threaten your masculinity.  I taught my ex boyfriend how to knit (though he didn't knit much after I taught him).  Honestly I haven't knitted anything since probably February since it just isn't the season for it, but I love it!  Nothing better than having a finished product you made all by yourself.  I did, however, make a kickass sushi pillow this summer with some sewing, painting, and fabric gluing.  But ANYWAYS!
As you can see, I like to talk a bit too much, and tend to ramble.  Excuse me.  Hahaha.

Tried knitting once... I forget what I was trying to make... A scarf I think. I ended up picking up a few extra stitches somewhere, and ended up with a triangle :p.

Alas, I must admit some things are just not for myself :p

Aw Seamac thanks! And me and my tiny plant love you and your massive garden!   Grin
And Arcy--trust me, I still have the first scarf I ever made...Oh man that thing is bad.  When I was taught how to knit my best friend neglected to tell me about splitting yarn and adding stitches--I started out with around 20 stitches and once I realized I messed up and wasn't supposed to add them...I was at 98.  So that scarf has holey pleats on the end of it.  Boy was that a mess.  But then I kept trying and now I'm great at it!  Can whip out a scarf in a few hours.  Quite handy.  So don't give up!
I think my favorite thing to knit is hats.  My ultimate goal is mukluks.  Still working toward those.  I'm a master at mittens but I haven't made enough socks to master something like mukluks.  I will be the happiest girl on the planet when the day comes that I make my first pair!

So ps guys--if anyone ever wants some mittens or anything I'd be more than happy to give away some knitted goods!    Wink

When you can create Mukluks let me know. Vermont winter can get quite intense and some whoolen mukluks would be GREAT!

I'm almost afraid to bring this up, but has anyone read the Harry Potter series here?

I read the first book, and then watched the rest of the movies. I'm not much of a reader....why do you ask?

Bifster,

So are you a dorm room grower like me?  I think I read something where you mentioned a college dorm.  What school?  What are you studying?

Haha, I brought up HP because Elizabeth's knitting hobby reminded me of Hermione.

And I said that I was in a dorm, so maybe it was me who was a fellow dorm room grower.

I wish I could be a dorm grower, but having moved to Ohio, that prospect looks bleak.

Hell yes I'm a dorm room grower.  Starting Sunday at least.  So far this summer I've been a bedroom in my house grower...My dad laughed his ass off when I explained to him what Salvia was.  Good thing it's legal here.   Grin
I'm going to College of Charleston this year majoring in media studies (basically journalism but for some reason they won't call it that...).  Wasn't my first choice, but I didn't have $120,000 to throw around on UCF...So hooray for in state schools.

Looks like there's quite a few dorm growers, eh?  And bohmars, why did knitting remind you of Hermione?
As a sidenote, I stopped reading HP at the 4th book.  I'm more of a Tobias Wolff, Raymond Carver sort of reader now.  Read for the writing.  Arts boarding school will do that to you. Wink

I think it's the fifth book when Hermione starts knitting hats, socks, and scarves for the house elves of Hogwarts and stashing them so that they unwittingly pick them up and are freed. Low blow indeed, but Dobby ends up collecting them all anyways.

Seems we have a good deal in common, bif- I went to high school at a Math and Science boarding school.
