Week 5 Update

Wow... Just wow... I'm amazed at how much mass these three plants have put out in the last week... It seems that, from obsessive pruning and stripping, I've forced them to create a huge amount of leaf area. The following picture is taken 2 days AFTER I removed 1 ounce worth of (dried) leaf from them. Yes, you read that correctly... I removed around 3oz of wet leaves, and they're still this full and bushy...

They also are putting out some weird growth... Genetic variability I'd assume... very long, slender leaves with a slightly "velcroish" underside. It seems their trichomes haven't quite disappeared yet, which is odd considering their age and level of growth.

what praytell is your pruning method that has harboured such growth? are you topping them (removing the starter new growth/buds at the end of the stems or what?

Yep... They were taken from a heavily pruned donor plant... And every third instance of new growth (on each stem) was removed... This allows for about three nodes on each stem before they break off into new stems.

Week 6 Update.

Well, I did it. I rooted two more successful clones... My record now stands at 12 rooted and 1 failure. I'm totally psyched.

Also, a picture of my (semi) older clones. You can see the incredible amount of growth they put out every week...They literally double in size every seven days. They're incredible.

My latest plant (Sold to Flobin) packaged and ready to give away to her new owner:

Ugh, HUGE local order came in tonight (I'm happy, although I don't sound like it :p)... Six cuttings!

Poor parent plants...  Embarrassed

That's it for next week. I'm excited to see how well the parent plants respond to the amount of cuttings I took from them. I'm sure all the tiny little lateral branches will just explode with growth (I hope...):

Week 8 Update

Alright! Time for a new update. Since they're getting much bigger, I'm updating half as frequently... First up, the main clones.

You can see how much bigger they've gotten in only 8 or 9 weeks. Really, not bad at all for two months and a bit. Here's a side shot to use as more of a height comparison. The largest plant is 14" tall right now!

I've got a new clone too... She just rooted, and is adjusting to her new life in soil.

Up next, a new batch of clones. I've sold 27 plants so far this year... At 18$ a piece, this is turning out to be an incredible hobby that DOESN'T ruin my wallet!

And finally, here's a picture of my entire operation as it stands right now Smiley

Hey Arcygenical, I've been reading the forums here for a little while and see that you're from Toronto? I'm from just north of toronto and currently live in waterloo. I've been interested in growing my own plant for a while now, but since it's winter I've been putting off getting one, but I think I'm getting impatient and just want to start at it. Anyways, I looked online for local places that sell SD plants and found a place called Sacred Seed downtown: http://www.sacredseed.com/index.htm have you heard of this place? and if so, are their plants any good? After looking at your grow log here I'm thinking maybe buying one off you might be a better idea, heh. That is if you're selling.
Should I wait until spring? That would be at least may, though.
Any advice on growing in our dry/cold environment would be greatly appreciated!
cheers

Sacred seed no longer exists in the way you would think. I originally went to them for finding salvia clones, but they don't actually sell live plants. There's a "Glass studio" (read, growhouse) up the street at 660 Young street... But there's a 2 year waiting list on Salvia clones! I had to get them from an online seller, and they were WAY overpriced (20$ each + 60$ shipping!) and came in poor condition.

Luckily, I live 2 minutes away from the Sacred Seed (walking!) and would be glad to help set you up with a clone or two in the future...

I guess their website is a bit outdated then. Saves me the disappointment of showing up there and not being able to get one.

If I could buy a clone off you that would be great! When would you be able to produce a clone? Like, do you have a waiting list too? Or would you rather not make clones in the winter?
I should be in Toronto sometime around the 16th-18th. I don't expect that's enough time for you though, but if it is let me know. Either way I'd love to talk possible dates that I could buy one off ya. Feel free to PM me or email me at dartyb@gmail.com (I don't want to clutter up your grow log here too much!)
thanks a million

The ones on the first page, collectively between all 3 of them, donated 40 cuttings. They were only a single stalk because of how stripped they had become! They were cloned last Feb.
