Strain:  from seamac's ud005
Lighting:  FLORALUX 150w HPS Mini Grow Light
Grow Media/Soil Mix:  hydroton, water sterilized by boiling
Fertilizer:  General Hydroponics MaxiBloom dry powder
Temperature Range:  20-25 deg C
Humidity:  dry
Started From:  clone
Start Date:  Clone cut and placed in bubbler 11/12/07

placed under HPS on 12/27/07
My water EC level is 800 before nutes
After nutes it is 1900, for an effective nute level of 1100 uS

gtghydroponics says to use 700-1120ppm for sage
some forums said to use  1000-1600ppm
salvia growers guide says to use 1.6 - 2.4 EC

My nute EC level is 1.1, which is 770ppm

I am running 12/12 for the lights.

I have tried hydro 3 times with salvia and failed.

too much nutes too early + temp issues + sterilization issues. Everything that causes rot.
They would root and then their leaves would fall off then they would die.

I'm running minimum nutes (~770ppm) not because I want to but because only so much of the dry formula dissolves into the water. Im going to the grocery store today, they have an R/O machine, so I can check how much R/O water costs. Then try to take a picture of the mother.

Nice setup, I'm sure your plant will love it. As long as you change out the water every-so-often you should avoid any problems with root rot.

Are you using tap water right now? I don't know how yours is but when I used my tap water with hydro it really screwed with the pH, I would have to use pH down basically everyday. Thats the only bad part about hydro; you need good (and usually somewhat expensive) water.

Yeah, distilled water for 99c a gallon is where it's at. About 99c a week for explosive growth is totally worth it IMO.

While adjusting ph today i noticed aeroponic style roots!

Paradoxic: I am using boiled tap water, ec of .5 initially. Yeah, the ph is screwy until you get it under control, then it rises slowly at a constant pace. Arcy, next refill I will use distilled water, which is this coming saturday.

Its 1.29 and I need 3 gal minimum, so 4$ every two weeks. I looked into alternatives, like using nutes made for hard water.

hardwater nutes = 80$ and will last 4 years
vs
distilled water = 104$ per year.

Edit: today i just checked the roots and saw root rot :\

refilled with 4 gal distilled water.
added 5tsp of h2o2 to the ~4gal of water in the res and am hoping for the best.

added nutes to 870ppm=1.244 EC

I didn't know they designed nutes for hardwater, I wonder whats different about them...? Do they make hardwater pH down/up? Or pH down that can deal with whatever makes it rise in tap water...that might be something to look into. However, in general most people recommend using distilled water for hydro, so you're probably best with that.
