that looks like a flower bud!
it will slow down the growth of the rest of your plant, but if you keep it on, you can try pollinating it and maybe get seeds (which are very rare, so good luck if you do, mine's been flowering for about two months and still hasn't produced seeds)

It looks to me like it was a flower bud before it was made into a cutting, it looks like it's rather brown and black, thus dead or dying.  The plants look great, they arrived very healthy. Good luck with them!

Thanks for your replies guys.  Do you think I ought to cut off the flower bud?  If so, is there any specific way I should go about that so that I don't damage the plant?  (such as where to cut, etc.)

Thanks!

Yeah, that's an old bud.
Cut it off right under it. You'll get some growth coming from the 2 nodes right under where you cut.

Aw, I cut it off this morning  Shocked

In any case, all the plants looked pretty strong with very minimal wilting, so I decided to pot the rest of them today.  2 of the Salvia plants are on their own in 5" pots, and then I put 3 more plants together in a larger 9.5" pot.  My chamber has about 2" of perlite in the bottom.  There are a couple of other plants in there already, but my Salvia plants fit in nicely with them.  Right when I finished potting the 3 plants together and sealed up the chamber, the sun came out.  It's been raining here ALL week, and this was the sun's first appearance today.  It must be a sign. Wink I've still got my grow lights on though.  Very excited.

Thanks!

In the top left corner there is I *think* Chamaedorea elegans (parlor palm)...it was bought at Ikea a long long time ago and left to rot in a friend's closet somewhere.  I rescued it and brought it back from just a tiny stump =)

Below that is a pot with 4 small basil plants

Next to that is a random tray that I just threw some potting soil in and tossed a bunch of basil seeds in, just for the hell of it...the tray is really shallow and I don't have much hope for it, but I thought it'd be fun to see what happens as I have hundreds of seeds sitting around.

Roll Eyes
That wouldn't happen.
1) it's only around 1 foot tall
2) you can clearly see that it's browning and shriveling up
Nice plants though. I'm sure they'll do well!

Day 5

Strain: Blosser
Lighting: 2x26W @ 6500k, 2x13W @ 2700k
Grow Media/Soil Mix: 50% Perlite (Uni-Gro), 50% Organic Potting Soil (Uni-Gro)
Fertilizer: None
Temperature Range: 70 F
Humidity: Unknown
Started From: Clone
Start Date: 01/21/2010

Other Details/Images:

I originally had 3 plants in 1 pot, but today I decided to separate them.  My plan is to wait until these are all somewhat root bound and then transplant them into larger pots (like the green one shown below).  Sound good?

I also have 4 bulbs now, 2 6500k and 2 2700k, sort of in an X-formation.

Here is the new lineup:

The first plant I potted is now standing straight up and is looking good:

Plant #2 is one of the re-potted plants.  One of the leaves looks a little dry/wilted/something is up with it.  But the rest of it looks ok I think:

Plant #3 has only some leaves on top and a pretty baren stem, but I can see some very tiny leaves/growth along it.  So far so good:

Plant #4 looking pretty decent, and you can see some new growth along the stem.

Plant #4 also has what appears to be a flower bud growing from it:

Plant #5 has a lot of growth, and has some pretty crazy roots when I got it, so I left him in the bigger pot.  He also has the thickest stem:

Plant #5 also has this growing from the top.  I thought it looked cool so I took a shot of it.  Will this develop into 2 branches?

Yep youll get 2 branches off it. You can keep doing that to have a bushy plant. However remember that when it get big there will be alot of wieght on that stem. These plants spread by breaking and rerooting. It will break after awhile. But after it breaks it will grow back twice as bushy.

I had a buncha basil and it all died.  Sad I love the smell of that stuff.

Update: Day 41

Strain: Blosser
Lighting: 2x26W @ 6500k
Grow Media/Soil Mix: 50% Perlite (Uni-Gro), 50% Organic Potting Soil (Uni-Gro)
Fertilizer: Alaska 5-1-1, Happy Frog 6-4-4
Temperature Range: ~70 F
Humidity: Unknown
Started From: Clone
Start Date: 01/21/2010

Other Details/Images:

Since my first post, I've repotted most of the plants from 4" to 8" pots and started experimenting with fertilizer (Alaska 5-1-1) and mycorrhizae (Happy Frog 6-4-4).  So here we go...

My smallest plant.  One of the huge leaves had fallen off and I also removed 2 of the bigger leaves just above that (see above).  It's perked up and repotted in an 8" pot.  Added myc to the soil mix.

Next plant, repotted in an 8" pot.  Noticed nice growth within a week of repotting.  Nice.

Next plant, haven't repotted yet.  Super slow growth.  I can see roots on the top of the soil, not really at the bottom though.  I might check it out and repot to an 8" today and add some myc to the mix.

Next up, repotted in an 8" pot, added myc to the mix.

Next up, a lot of growth on this guy, added alaska fertilizer 5-1-1.  Perlite on top of soil has turned a little green, is this something to be concerned about?

Close up from the plant above, 2 branches coming out of the soil and a huge 2" aerial root that seems to be trying to find his way into the soil.  Each it gets closer and closer!  Are those 2 branches possible future cuttings?

Last pic, a close up of a branch that grew out of the last plant.  It's about 5" in length and has 4 nodes.  Could I take this for a cutting or should I wait for it to get bigger?  It's about as thin as a pencil.
