Hey all, I'm new to SS and thought this would be a good place to start. I've more or less jumped in head first, with no experience growing ... Well, anything. So I am sure I will have trouble along way, and a plethora of questions for you folks.

I received my cutting in mail on Wednesday. My friend who sent it to me went with the cheapest shipping, so it arrived in pretty terrible condition. The container it was in had been completely crushed, and most of the leaves where broken or ripped. So I hastily planted it, gave it some water and hoped for the best.



To my pleasant surprise, after two days it is starting to look more lively.



I'm currently debating whether or not I should make a humidity tent for it or if just misting it will be enough. What should I be looking for to tell if it needs more humidity?

Anyway, I'll try to keep this semi-updated... And hopefully I can find a something better to take pictures with then my cellphone.

Hi and welcome to the forums! Your phone does a decent job for pictures. It doesn't look like you need a humidity dome as there is no browning or wilting so that is a very good sign. Just don't over do it on the misting. Many people start out misting their plants way too much and end up doing more harm than good. in fact the plant looks so healthy I would be hesitant to mist at all.... Did this plant have roots already? (I am assuming it did since i is doing that well in soil in this short amount of time). Your plant will eventually get acclimated to the ambient humidity. Some people on here grow Salvia in as low as 20% humidity without misting.

Just some things to be careful of.... don't let the plant's leaves get warmed up from direct sunlight. That can kill a small plant in hours. And I wouldn't use fertilizer for at least the first 30 days.

She is looking real healthy and has a much better start than some other grows on here.

Really, that plant is looking pretty darned good for its travels. Very nice Go table you have there too.

Thanks guys, I think I just panicked when I saw the destroyed packaging. After taking a look at many other peoples logs, I am starting to realize just how hearty salvia is. I think it may be getting a small amount of direct sunlight in the morning, so I'll try to find somewhere else for it.

Now she just needs a name...

watch out for overwatering that sized pot (small plant still) and be avoid standing water in drain saucer. You might not have to water for  a week or two, just make sure the potting mix doesn't remain "soggy" all the time, plants MUST have air to the roots, so 90% of the pot has to dry out, which can be hard to accomplish.....

morning sunlight is ok unless it feels hot on your skin, then its too strong....filtered through blinds or screen is almost perfect...

plant looks good considering it travels...but the next few weeks are the tricky part... good growing to ya!
