My First Salvia Plants
«
on:
June 08, 2009, 01:58:59 pm »
Strain:
Blosser
Lighting:
limited natural
Grow Media/Soil Mix:
50/50 Perlite - Miracle Grow
Fertilizer:
none
Temperature Range:
70-80
Humidity:
temporary humidity tent
Started From:
Clone
Start Date:
June 08 2009
Other Details/Images:
Shortly after arrival, I placed a humidity dome over them with limited natural light.
They was looking really good so I went ahead and transplanted them to their new homes about 4 hours later, they wilted a bit outside the humidity dome while transplanting but bounced right back after covering them back up.
I know I might have to remove the bottom leaves off the larger plant but for now its had enough stress, I'll give it a few days to recover.
Also I'll try to keep things updated I think the humidity dome thing is more work then I want so the plan is to get them used to "the norm" in a few weeks, for now they look happy so I'm happy!!!

Make sure you keep a humidity dome over it or they will wilt and die.
Your plants look very good, the main advice is to see if it stops wilting, if the stem bends downward[wilting stem] then do take off that bottom leaf to restore turgor pressure to your plant.
Good luck

Just a bit of an update, the largest plant has already outgrown my humidity dome (2 liter bottle) I can't believe they are already growing in such a short time.
So now I'm in search of a larger dome...
Updating this post, I figured since the seem to be doing well I would remove the domes for a bit while misting, they wilted in about 30 mins, I replaced the dome after misting again and they stood back up within a few minutes.
My guess they are still a bit stressed but doing well enough to rebound, I'll keep them covered and find a larger dome for them and keep them in it for a few more weeks till the roots develop better.

Thanks for the link, I remember reading that one now. So much info around here I forget some. I'll give them a few more days and start the process.

After you acclimatize them, You might see that they arent growing at all, but it's just a warning that they are rootbound... I acclimatized the one in that link and it just stopped growing, I was thinking about putting it back in high humidity, but I just found that it was rootbound, and It's growing llike crazy now!!

I would not do this. Your plants look pretty stressed and were obviously grown in a high RH. Give them a week or two before acclimating imo, they'll end up better.
I just like to be cautious.

Also with them wilting so quickly and rebounding in minutes you probably have underdeveloped roots for the plant they support. Give it time for the roots to grow (plant growth may be slow to non-existant) and once the roots are developed properly they will take acclimation much easier.

Thanks for the info, I had to build a new humidity tent for the larger one, 2 liter was getting too small, built one out of coat hangers and plastic sheets. Got plenty of room for it to stretch out now...

So far so good, lost one of the large leafs on the bigger plant but I can see new sprouts on top of both so the roots must be taking hold. Still using humidity tents, off and on.
Should I try to give them more light? They are next to the back door inside, north side, so absolutely no direct light. Its where I sprout and grow all my seedlings, but I'm talking full sun plants and they always bend towards the light after sprouting.

How many hours of light would you get a day?
I wouldn't reccomend direct light at all until your plants are a few feet tall and lush, your plants will burn and take weeks to recover. A good tip on salvia divinorum is give them as bright of lifht as possible- but it is only fine if the light isn't hot to your pant's leaves, so put your hand in front of a few light sources and if you think that your leaves will overheat, then dont put them there!!

Maybe geographic location would help, the sun never reaches the north side of my house, Southern Indiana, they sit in front of my large back door inside. So any light they receive is non direct sunlight. I believe the latitude I live at the sun only reaches my zenith a few times a year.

non direct sunlight is good- you can acclimate them to more light too- If you want- but it is a slow process, because if you screw up your plants will burn and go into shock

Doing well
Are you fertilizing them??
If not, you should give them 1/3 strength fertilizer- miracle grow, fish emulsion, or liquid seaweed will do great!
