ok i was looking at my salvia making sure there were no bugs or anything in general with them and while i was doin this my arm burshed against my biggest plant and broke the tip off. i quickly put the accident in a cup of water. I cut a hole in a peice of cardboard big enough for the stem to fit through.i put the stem through the hole and place the underside of the stem( where the roots will grow) in the cup of purified water(i figured cleaner water is better). but should i put anykind of root hormones on it or drop some plant food in the water to help it? and as for the mother plant (i guess its considered that now) is there anything speacial to do with her since there was no clean razors or scissors just a fast break. i would greatly appreciate ANY help on this. Both of my plants are about 4-5 months old. I have had a fun time trying to grow them and just found out the correct soil to use and i dont want them to die. plz plz plz help me    thanks, dreamshaman

No need for any kind of rooting hormone, just keep the cutting in high humidity. You should read this guide to rooting as well:

I did this with my plant within the first month. accept i had snapped off the second part of a "Y" branch. it seems the key to rooting cuttings from what ive found is to remove 80-85% of the leaves on the stem you are trying to root, often you are only left with 2 sets of leaves at the very tip of the stem so that it looks like a pine tree.  This is because every leaf needs a certain amount of watter to support itself, and without a rootsystem now, it wont be aable to take up enough to support them all. so you make the decision for the plant as to what leaves to support(the ones you leave) and often 2 sets will be enough to make sugar and energy for the plant, aswell as being sustainable for it.

This coupled with 24/7 humidity tent gives you a great chance of success. (though be sure to read up on our information here about propper care in a tent/greenhouse) good luck!
