Closer view.. She is shaded by my other plants.. and a large ficus growing next to her.. she is in a 5gal pot.. my own mix... not yet fertilized..  I will give her another month at least before first feeding.. I am thinking these plants like being outside more than in..

Any thoughts?

She looks happy. Just watch out for any direct sun at all, but if you have her shaded well she should do great.

So I noticed yesterday there is a little bit of filtered direct sun that hits her.. late afternoon about 3:30.. I am thinking about picking up some sort of fabric or plastic to form a sun screen.. any thoughts would be helpful..

My outside plants love a little bit of filtered sunlight. For how long are your plants exposed in this way? There definitely is a sweet spot in that salvia does enjoy some amount of sunlight as long as it is not too intense. Eventually I would like to have my plants under a 50-60% shade cloth all day long.

I agree. My one plant loves the early morning direct sun before 11:00am....but there is a tricky balance. If the plant's leaves aren't getting hot then it should be OK for a short duration, but 3:30pm usually is some pretty intense sunlight around me.

Hey JARG... I hope she stays happy.. I have to figure something out before she gets too big because she will start getting more sun the taller she grows.. I'm still looking at screening material but I don't want it to look to crazy.. The plants are all growing in a common area of an Apt complex so I do have some limits.. I have been looking at putting some sort of vine in a large pot in front of her to block sun as that would not look too unusual..  Only time will tell just how well she does outside..

Don't take leaves off of her: wait until she throws them away by herself! That plant is a sun worshiper and she's going to grow really REALLY fast now if you JUST give her Miracle-Gro Plant food a couple of times a month.

I can see from your photos how FAST she is growing! VERY Happy Plant! [Genius +]

It LOOKS Like she grew 4 inches between 9/13 & 9/18!

yeah crazy growth there, she deffinately loves it where she is.
and from my experience they love being outside 10 times more than inside. the amount of sun in that afternoon photo looks like a great mix, mine get about 2 hours of direct light as it fails(3pm-5pm) she said she likes it Smiley

yeah, leave the leaves!!!  let it do its final jump up to Novermber or so.....might even flower for you.....

sun right now is getting weaker, even as it drops in the sky and is more horizontal on plants.....so short periods of even midday sun are OK....best way is full sun with 50% screen...or near or close to reflecting wall, but plant is in the shade ....relected light has all the plant needs, minus the Infrared heat....
