Strain: blosser
Lighting: 1-54watt T-5 fluorescent bulb
Grow Media/Soil Mix: Hydroton (expanded clay)
Fertilizer: General Hydroponics FloraGro, FloraBloom, and FloraMicro
Temperature Range: 60-65°C
Humidity: 100% (humidity tent) currently, then will try to acclimate them
Started From: Clone
Start Date: 04-02-08

Other Details: I am using a General Hydroponics Waterfarm system

Hello everyone, I just received my two salvia plants through salviasource.org and my compliments to the sender as they were very well preserved and packed. I probably should have waited a few day before transplanting but I was confident my hydroponic setup would work well for them. Just and hour out of the box and they had already started to wilt due to low humidity (apparently 60% is low) so I constructed a plastic container humidity tent. Within a few hours they had perked up again and a day later they look great. I tried posting pictures in the gallery but it told me the pictures were not .jpg even though they were does anyone know whats wrong? Anyways I will be posting my progress regularly and I hope to hear from you all soon. Happy growing!!

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to update everyone on the progress of my salvy's. Sorry that I don't have pictures available yet but there seems to be a problem with uploading them, I'll try get them up as soon as I'm able. I attempted to start acclimating them today, I removed the humidity chamber for exactly one hour and they ended up drooping quite a bit (as would be expected). I will attempt an additional hour each day but if they end up drooping too much I might half that time but we'll see how it goes. Talk to you all later!

Hey everybody,

Thanks to the help of Paradoxic, my salvia pictures have been posted.
All of these photos were taken the first day I received the plant (04/02/08). I will try to post more recent photos soon.

My salvy's right out of the box

Planted in my waterfarm system from General Hydroponics

With the humidity chamber on

I am currently on day 2 of acclimation (2 hours without humidity chamber) and they seem to be going longer without drooping, as hoped for. I'll continue to keep you all updated.

Hey everybody,

I wanted to update everyone on the progress of my sallys. It is day 7 since planting and day 3 of acclimation (3 hours without humidity chamber) and they seem to be as green as ever.

The pictures were taken today 2 hours into acclimation, they didn't seem to droop at all and as I'm writing this its the end of hour 3 and they only seemed to have drooped slightly. By the looks of it they are getting very used to the humidity of my apartment. Let me know what you guys think of my setup and offer any suggestions you might have. Catch ya'll on the flip side!

Looking great.

I'd step up the acclimatization period by 2-3 hrs at a time since they're doing so well.

Once they're acclimated, pinch them ASAP, and move the lights a tiny bit closer.

Thanks Acrygenical, I'll try the longer acclimation time to see how they behave, I'll be sure to pinch them as soon as they can handle the humidity.

Take care

wow shes so skinny!!! but in that hydro system just wait she will be huge in no time. you should look at madgardener's hydro growlog its crazy. my last plant had a stem that is almost an inch thick! then i had to cut her up due to nitrogen shock i suppose. what light schedule are you running? nutes? i plan on doing a hydro setup when i get my new apartment. it does amazing things with sally. and with two plants in there they will be fighting each other for room soon! Smiley you made a great choice by putting them in a hydro system.

whats up guys,

Yesterday was only supposed to be 4 hours of acclimation, but the plants looked so good after 4 that I extended it another hour and I think they could have went longer (as per the advice of Acygenical), so today I will shoot for 6 or 7 hours. On another note, perhaps the anxiety got the best of me but I went ahead and pinched the tops of the plants. I immediately dipped the end of the protoleaf in rooting solution and planted, I hope it roots! These are the pictures I took after pinching, sorry about the blurriness but my camera sucks. Until next time, take care all!

Cry Well extremely bad news everybody, I left home for the day only to return to a disaster. My cats found a way on the table where my salvia's were and completely ripped them apart, 40 dollars down the drain. I was upset to say the least but I quickly hit the internet for salvia plants once again and came across some seeds for sale, so my next endeavor will be attempting to cultivate from seeds. I will continue to keep everbody updated to my progress and I will definately take the precautions necessary to cat proof my garden. Until next time all.

I'm extremely sorry to hear that. If you have any pieces with a node or two you should try rooting them. There could definitely be hope. Also if the roots are still intact they should grow back quickly. Getting the humidity as high as possible will make recovery most likely.

About seeds, Salvia is very difficult to get to produce seed and in many cases the seeds are not even viable. I would be very skeptical of any internet sources of seeds. If they were to be sold online they would be extremely expensive (higher price than a rooted cutting).
