Strain: Unknown, Richters
Lighting: Shaded patio, a couple hours of direct sunlight on most days
Grow Media/Soil Mix: Commercial potting soil
Fertilizer: None
Temperature Range: 22-37 deg C daytime
Humidity: Outdoors, SF Bay area, manual misting a couple of times / day
Started From: Clone
Start Date: Late May

Other Details/Images:

When I received the clones from Richters, they had been sitting at UPS for about three days, because I wasn't home when they were delivered. This was what they looked like shortly after unpacking:

As you can see, two of the plants were in really poor shape, one was quite healty and the fourth was very droopy. I put them all in the same 8" pot, which turned out to be a mistake. The fourth plant continued to look like it was going to die for about a week. The leaves would go limb during the day but regain some life during the night. Eventually it adapted to the low humidity and high temperature. This image is at about 1 month:

The two smaller plants showed virtually no development until I repotted them into a separate pot after about a month. They now look like they will survive.

This is what they look like today:

I am now waiting for the growth to speed up. I have been pruning judiciously and I'm happy with the current shape and density of the largest plant, but I wonder if it is getting enough light...

Welcome! You are off to a fantastic start! I got my first plant from Richters and it was about as small as your smallest one. You got some nice size plants from Richters! The plants look very healthy and I think they should start to grow pretty quickly.

Your plants seem to be handling the SF bay area outdoors environment well. I'm in the south bay area and would like to eventually start growing my plants outdoors, so I'll be very interested in how your plants do.

It's always interesting to read about outdoor growing, just because it's cool to see plant like this adapt to so different environments they normally grow in.  Smiley

After all the starting pains, your plants look good. Good luck!

Regarding the quality of Richters’ plants and service:

When I received the plants, I let them know that I was a bit disappointed with the condition of the plants (attached the picture above). A couple of days ago, I got a message that they have credited me for the 3 smaller plants. So they did the right thing (although it took them a good while) and I think that people can order from them with confidence.

An update to the grow log is forthcoming. Today I found a slug making its way towards the largest of the plants. I hope they won't make a habit of it!

The smallest of the plants has died. :-(

But the rest are doing pretty well:

Nice Plants!

[Genius +] for growing expertise gained!

The only thing they want is just a little Miracle-Gro plant food ... It'll darken them up considerably!

Salvia is a nitrogen hog ...
