It sounds like it would be best to roll the leaves down-side out for quiding.

Does sound like a good idea Dry - do most people chew on the quid a bit? I read some people saying they only ever roll em up and hold them in their mouth for quite a long time... while others say they roll em up, and chew on em (not swallowing saliva for as long as possible in both cases I believe)

I gnaw mine into slurry and retain it at least 15 minutes (swallowing juices and small flakes as my mouth fills up with slurry-livia) ...   Grin

They are Labeled: 2 of these 6 potted plants JUST Arrived from Daniel Siebert so I've gotten 2 of two of those rare strains now.

These are a Founding group of the Salvia Genetic Exchange Program ... More to follow ...

I now have 3 extremely Rare Strains and 2 Common Strains of Salvia Divinorum growing out back in the Jungle.

The one little Moon Maiden strain is still very small and growing VERY Slowly. I worry for her still.

I have 2 Phoenix Strain Plants and 2 Aquarian Strain Plants - I repotted the ones Daniel sent me (already potted when I got them) yesterday into bigger pots. Those 2 plants are all branchy and promise to give me many many cuttings this coming spring.

But I had a surprise hiding under the leaves of the other special strains ...

Last October Jupe sent me a Cutting of the Luna Strain as a part of the Salvia Divinorum Genetic Exchange and Insurance Program - I received her November first and a couple of weeks later the Luna strain was potted and Happy.

Then she disappeared into the undergrowth and I didn't get a good look at her for a month ...

After the Major Storm Damage I cleaned up the wreckage of the Larger plants and started on making a clearing in the Jungle for repotting the redwoods ...

I moved the 5 rare plants that represent our cloning stock plus the curtain of rooting plants in mugs and got a GOOD Look at the Luna strain for the first time in maybe a month.

She was so beautiful, in my eyes, that I started talking to her right away - and CRYING, SOBBING because of the rush of love from my heart towards her!

Gasped:

"Oh, Goddess, Baby! You have 2 perfectly ROUND Leaves! Oh, what a BEAUTIFUL Plant you are! (Here I started Sobbing and my voice shook with love) I'm going to name you "Round Leaves" Baby! OH, I LOVE YOU!"

I picked her up and cradled her to my chest next to my heart. Looking VERY Very closely I saw a quarter inch long baby bitey-crawler underneath one of the round leaves, grazing on her: looking like a tiny moving snip of green thread. I got super close macro mode mug shots of the plant wasting vermin then sent it's spirit back to the Great Spirit.

Finally I set her down in a different location and made her comfortable. There were an AWFUL lot of Red Earthworms in the humus on the Jungle floor and after getting THEIR Mug shots I distributed a worm and some humus on each rare strain plant and put the rest of the many surplus red worms back into my vermiculture/Composting bucket.

I'll get more Photos of the RARE Ones to post in this topic later ...

Sound like an intimate moment you had there  Cheesy  Those round leaves are quite amazing I must admit, very distinctive. We definitely gotta put together a nice guide with pictures that analyzes all the strains.

I'm curious, what is the benefit of putting humus on the topsoil?

All 5 of my surviving strange strains plants are getting pretty big now .... I've got 2 each of the Aquarian AND Phoenix Strains and ONE Lone Luna Strain.

On Jan. 7th 2008 I named her "Round Leaves"

On April 30th she was this big:

And the gang of Rare Plants were this big:

(On the Left is Aquarian #2, then Phoenix #2, then Aquarian #1, and Luna's down on the right end.)

On May 30th she was this big:

And the gang of Rare Plants were this big:

So you can SEE how big they got in ONE Month ... and they are MUCH Bigger than that today! Soon they'll be as tall as Me!

I'm going to get a foot long, inch wide, cutting from that Fast Fat beloved Luna next Saturday for the Contest.  Shocked  You know it'll grow FAST! You guys are doomed!   Grin

That Contest Cutting never grew ... I learned that very fat and tall cuttings don't do well! Skinny Short cuttings do best, I've found!

I have begun Propagating the 'Aquarian' and 'Ph♀enix' strains for the Salvia Divinorum Genetic Insurance program ...

Photos soon ...

Hey Jupe,

The 'Luna' strain you sent me is taller than me now ...

The Leaves of my 'Luna' strain are ALMOST Round: which is Why she's EARNED the name "Round Leaves"

Oh, BTW, Daniel told me that strain names in plants are always put between single quotes and Punctuation goes outside them.

Nice Sea Mac, those plants look great. I really want to get a topic up that compares the different strains of Salvia.

Would you want to post that topic (in the Knowledge section)? If you just put a picture of each strain and the name that would be a good start. Then we can add information like history and such from this page: http://sagewisdom.org/clones.html

Also it would be cool to compare how well or how fast each strain grows. And things like that that might vary from strain to strain.

Honestly  ... They are ALL Visually identical EXCEPT for the 'Luna' Strain.  You cannot tell one strain from the other! I mean it!

That's why I treasure the plant "Round Leaves" as she will be my NEW "Momma Kat"! Eventually the majority of my plants will be of the 'Luna' Strain.

Not for a year or two ...

I'll post a few Photos of her growing up though ... Later.
Here are some leaf Photographs showing the heavily serrated almost Round Leaves of the 'Luna' strain ...

.uh......you know, just ignore it?
sigh...oh well, it sounded like a good thought....

maybe instead I'll just sell those aftermarket plastic yellow clipon salvia flowers...for that rare garden plant...

I've made Cuttings from 'Ph♀enix' and 'Aquarian' parents ...

Wait, are you sure...Luna has no salvinorin A. Is that just judging by trying to get effects off of the leaves and not feeling anything. That seems very strange that it doesn't produce salvinorin A, it must produce at least a little.
