First of all I want people to understand that I did not come up with this extraction method. I am using the High-Strength Extractions of Salvia Divinorum method by The Rev. Dr. Moo Moo found off the Erowid vaults. What I did do was add pictures, some tips, rephrased it and changed a few things around to make this easy process even easier.

We will be preforming a non-standardized extraction method which means the potency of the final product completely depends on the potency of the leaves you used in the starting process. You might ask yourself why are you making this when you can just buy it at the store. Well simply put the stuff you buy at your local headshops is usually crap so you might as well be smoking the grass off your lawn. You will also be saving lots and lots of money and its a lot of fun.

Before you start make sure you read over the process a couple times so you know what the next few steps are and you don't mess up. If your lazy you can just read the process in the link above to make things easier because the process is practically the same. It takes about five to seven days to be completely done

Supplies needed:
  • a glass bowl (doesn't have to be real big)
  • a large bowl that can hold 100 grams of leaves
  • a glass liquid measuring cup
  • a coffee grinder
  • a 32 fl oz can of acetone (found at any hardware store)
  • 100 grams of Salvia Divinorum leaves
  • 2 mason jars (1 quart each)
  • cheese cloth (pictures below)
  • a metal strainer
  • a few coffee filters
  • a baking pan
  • a plastic bag
  • a scale to weigh the leaves
  • a metal spoon
*the reason you need the glass and metal supplies is because the acetone you will be using melts through any and all plastics so make sure you pay attention.Don't worry this will be evaporated by the end of the process.

What these next few step will be doing is making the leaves more crisp so when you grind them it will be a finer powder and the finer the powder the more efficient the extraction, do to the smaller pieces.

Step 1:Get your leaves which can be found online here. I am Shaman is a great store I highly recommend. They have very fast shipping, high quality products, lots of prizes and freebies and also accept cash payments through the mail. If you do buy from them, make sure you get the salvia leaf foilage and not the extract itself. All you need for one batch is 4 oz(112 grams) of the leaves. The higher quality leaf will make drastic changes in potency of your final product so don't be afraid to pay good money. Now weigh out 100 grams of leaves.

Step 2: Once you got your leaves weighed out get a large bowl that is big enough to hold all your leaves. Get your cheesecloth and place it in the bowl so its draping over the edges.

Now place the 100 grams of foilage into the bowl and fill it with water. Use both your hands to hold the leaves under. Let this soak for a good 10 minutes (about 7 if the leaves are crushed). You do lose some(very little) of the potency in this step so don't let it sit to long. When the time is up grab the cheesecloth by the edges and net all the leaves inside of it. Now squeeze out most of the water, but not all. The more you squeeze out the faster the drying process goes which does take a while but if you squeeze out to much it wont dry properly

Step 3: Place all your leaves into a baking pan. Put it in the oven and set to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. This step takes a few hours so here are some tips to speed it up.

Tips:
Try to use a pan that has more surface area rather than depth because its really the ones on the top that are drying. You can also use more than one pan

Fluff the leaves every 20 to 30 minutes so that the wet leaves on the bottom go to the top

When you fluff the leaves pick out the ones that are completely dry and place in a paper bag

Step 4: At this point you have a choice on what strength extract you will be making. The strength of the extract basically says how strong the potency of the final product will be. So 20x has 20 grams of leaves worth of salvinorin in 1 gram of actual salvia leaf product. So even though it only weighs 1 gram, its potency is really that of 20 grams of leaves. If you want to make 5x weigh out 5 grams of foilage from the 100. For 11x weigh out 11 grams of leaf. For 15x weigh out 15 grams. If u want 20x weigh out 20 grams The leaf you weigh out will be the actual product while the rest will be grounded up and laced onto the weighed out foilage.Lady Salvia will blow you away so don't make anything to strong unless you have had some experience with her

To make things simple I will be making 10x salvia extract. So weigh out a precise 10 grams of the dried leaves and place it in a plastic bag. Crush those leaves into the size you want to be smoking. Nothing to small or to big. Once thats done set it to the side. You wont use this for a few days.

At this point you should have 10 grams of crushed leaves in a plastic bag and another 90 grams of leaves waiting to be grounded.

Step 5: Get out the ol electric coffee grinder and clean it out. Now take your 90 grams of leaves and grind it all into a fine powder. The finer the powder the better the extraction will be. As you grind the leaves place the powdered salvia into 1 of your mason jars as you go along.

This can take awhile so to hurry things up, before grinding place your 90 grams of leaves into a paper bag(if they aren't already) and crush them with your hands so they are no longer whole leaves. This way when you place them into the grinder you can fit more.

At this point you should have the 10 grams of crushed leaves in the plastic bag and the other 90 grams of grounded leaves in a 1 quart mason jar.

These next few steps we will be covering the salvia with acetone, letting sit, filtering through a strainer, and then repeating the same process again. What this does is gets all the salvinorin from the leaves on to the acetone so you can let that evaporate on to your crushed leaves you set aside earlier

Some things to note:
Acetone melts through plastic so at this point don't use anything made out of it.

The mixture of the salvia and acetone creates a green liquid that stains anything and everything including your hands, except for glass. The fact that it will melt through anything doesn't make it any better either. So basically if you spill this it will melt through what it touches and then permanently stain inside of it. This does not come out/off. As you can see it happened to my scale in the first step.

Don't forget your repeating the step where you let the ground leaves sit in the acetone and strain two times so don't throw out your grounded leaves after the first time.

Once your done keep the liquid and throw out the leaves

Step 6: Get your can of acetone and pour it into your jar with the grounded leaves. Make sure you use enough so that it covers the leaves "generously" but to much because it will make future steps when your letting it evaporate much longer. Let this sit for 24 hours making sure to stir it a few times.

Things to note:
When your stirring it use a metal spoon and make it so all the leaves that settled on the bottom of the jar get mixed into the acetone so there is no longer a separation of the two substances.

Work over a glass table so that it cannot stain anything. When it touches glass it just evaporates and you can wipe the remaining powder with a wet sponge.

Some mason jars have plastic/rubber lining along the rim of the lid which will melt when its touched by the acetone. If you want to you can just place a piece of glass or wood over the top instead. I just make sure to be careful and don't let it touch.

Step 7: Now that you have let your jar sit for 24 hours you need to separate the acetone from the ground leaves. So get a glass bowl and place a second mason jar inside of it. On top of that put a strainer with a coffee filter inside of it. Now poor the contents of the first jar into the second. This can take awhile so here are some tips to speed up the process

Tips:
Make sure you don't stir the acetone and leaves before you pour through the filter. Just poor as much of the liquid as possible without getting any of the ground leaves. That way it wont be clogged.

Use the spoon to scrape the bottom of the filter so it moves all the gunk out of the way. Just keep moving it back and forth. Once its almost done you can gently pick up the filter and place it back down. Do this every now and then.

Once the liquid part of the contents has gone through you can scoop out the ground leaves into a fresh filter and squeeze in order to get all of the acetone out of it. This will stain your hands.

Only use one filter at a time because if you use two it drips through the first one and the second one absorbs it which is a waist.

Once you have filtered everything cover up the mason jar with the acetone in it so that it cant evaporate and set it aside. Then take all of the ground leaves and place them back in there original jar

Step 8: Repeat step six and seven one more time but instead of filtering it into a mason jar, pour it into a glass liquid measuring cup. Now you can throw out the ground leaves because all of the salvinorin is now in the acetone. Then add the acetone from the first time you filtered to the liquid measuring cup. Let this evaporate down to 8 fluid ounces(1 cup). If its already 1 cup or less you can just skip this part.

Step 9: Get the crushed salvia leaves you set aside in the very beginning and place it in the glass bowl(make sure its clean). Now pour all of your filtered acetone onto the leaves. Let this evaporate so that there is no more liquid left but the crushed leaves are moist. Scrape the sides of the bowl to get all the goo off the sides using the leaves. If you get it a little wet with some acetone and scrape with a spoon it makes it easier. Now measure out a few tablespoons of acetone(plain acetone not the filtered stuff, that should be all gone). 1 fluid ounce is 2 tablespoons. You just want enough to get your leaves wet not make a puddle on the bottom. Mix it in and stir often until it is dry so that the salvinorin is spread out equally. Let it sit for a day or two to let all the acetone completely evaporate. you can check by smelling. Once thats finished you are done!

is it really safe to smoke with the acetone? kinda reminds me of coke.. they pour gas all over it to extract the alkaloids.

No, it is definitely not safe to smoke acetone, thats why you must be sure it is all evaporated before you toke up. Acetone is pretty volatile so it will evaporate pretty quickly. I read in one guide that if you are worried some of the acetone (or whatever extraction liquid you used) hasn't evaporated you can pop the stuff in the oven to evaporate the remaining liquid.

So whenever making extract you have to use 100 grams of the dried leafs to start off with?

If you want to use another amount just adjust your other materials accordingly. Its just like baking a cake make a double order? double your ingredents. 1/2 order? halve them.  Wink

alright and one more question. how come you use the 90 grams of ground up leaf to make the 10x extract? shouldnt the 90 grams that is extracted make 90x?

if you take 90 grams you can make ~aprox~ 90x if you take 89 grams and apply it to 1 gram. But it would be a waste and very difficult and would only be theoretical as other factors come into play at the concentration.

to make 10x take 81 grams and apply it to 9 grams

9g of 10x >>> much more possible

this of course is not taking into consideration losses

PEOPLE !!!  #1 Safety Tip  PLEASE READ AND TAKE IT TO HEART

Acetone is an extremely volatile and flammable solvent !!!  It is a common cleaning solvent used in the manufacture of surfboards which I did for 30 years.

If you don't believe me, put a small puddle on a glass plate, then hold a source of fire over it about 2 feet above (make sure you are clear and standing back).  This solvent will ignite into a rapid hot burning column of explosive combustion.

PLEASE USE CARE ALWAYS !!

you do know that acetone causes cancer and internal bleeding and involuntary organ shut down right? why not look for something safer to use cause even though its all evaporated some of it gets soaked up into the leaves

False. Acetone does not get soaked into leaves when it's dry. Just as water doesn't soak into a cloth if it's totally dry.

Acetone is also not as fatal as you say, as it is a natural byproduct of certain metabolic processes... The amounts one would ingest breathing in 0.2g of leaf smoke would less than a body would produce on a protein heavy day... Especially if the extract was totally dried.

you could use grain alcohol....

acetona is bad, but it evaporates cleaning leaving no residue behind
