California Poppy

California Poppy is California's state flower and it said that the green leaves of the flower if dried and smoked will give you a opium high but is hard to get addicted to, Has anyone else heard this?

The herbs leaves and flowers by themselves are very mildly narcotic. If you are looking into this herb I highly recommend the 25x crystalized resin extract from shamanshop.net. This is the most reliable form of California poppy there is and I always have some in my shaman cupboard. It goes for $25.00 a gram which can be dosed up to six times if mixed with your favorite herbal smoking blend. Just place a drop sized piece of the resin on a flat small metal piece (some use paperclips) and heat the metal until the resin melts and falls onto your herbs. It is a very nice sedative so do NOT drive or do anything that requires full concentration or cognitive abilities. It is perfect before bedtime.

In the southwest-US some Native American medicine men/woman, and also some of the local Hispanic curaderos have used Cal. poppies medicinally for centuries. The plant has been both smoked and brewed as a tea for it's mild sedative and analgesic effects. The fresh leaves have also been quided before, but the effects were haphazard when done in such a way. That is some times it would work, and other times it didn't.
