California's medical marijuana industry took in about $2 billion a year and generated $100 million in state sales taxes during 2008. Sometimes I hate government. REALLY!!! This is only medical in 1 state!!! Just imagine if it was completely legal how much those figures would jump on top of the additional taxing. I also feel that the tax for legalization should allow medical patients to have a lower tax rate of some kind due to the nature of their use compared to the average person out there.

and jesus. 50 dollar tax per ounce? Thats half of what mids cost around here. (not that I'd know because currently illegal things are bad.)
50 per ounce isnt a bad tax when you figure that any bud actually sold would be that good-ish-ish and the lack of the blackmarket tax will back down the cost of production so you could potentially see a 400$ O for 300+tax especially when compettition comes into play. though this is wishfull thinking as the cost of production is very close to street value but 6 personall plants are more than enough to keep you growing, because seedlings dont count for mature plants keep that rotation growing and you could be cropping every month.

i think most of the reason it hasn't been made legal is If it were legal and they sold it for 200 an ounce that is still less than the govt would make off of you if you were to get arrested. buy an govt allowed ounce at 200. but say you get arrested and you have to pay bail we'll say maybe 300 to 500 maybe more on bail maybe a few 100 for court fees a grand or two for a lawyer. then all your court cost fees and probation fees. and maybe after all that reoffend plea down agian start your probation over for longer sentence and have to pay more court and probation fees. Being illegal they make more off of the people they catch with small ammounts for all these fees than the govt would get for selling an ounce taxed for about 200 bucks. IM thinking the govt likes making more on ya for being arrested.

But the amount of people they would get money from would DRASTICALLY outweigh the people they arrest even if they arrest someone what is it ... every 38 seconds? Still the amount of people that would buy pot regularly that never get busted would well outweigh that amount in court costs.

Or... how about fuck the money and let's talk about right and wrong.
It's WRONG for Cannabis to be illegal and for people to go to jail over it.

I agree with you 'Coyotl, but our government doesn't rationalize anything unless there's a dollar sign attached.

So we basically have concluded right and wrong do not matter to the government, only money.
Ya.... I think that pretty much sums it up.

I have to disagree. I think for most people not just the government (especially in america) right and wrong don't matter, only money does. You can buy what is right and wrong.
