Paradoxic? Does that time frame sound right? Solstice to Equinox?
Sounds pretty good...I will probably do this. For this contest I want to get a bunch of publicity, I want all the best growers from all over the net to join. So we should start doing some advertising well before the contest starts. Good idea prenumbra, that sounds pretty sweet. I have also been messing with some T-shirt designs so maybe that could be a prize as well....we will see.

I don't think I'd want to part with a plant so nice that it won a contest. Some dried leaves actually sounds pretty good to me!

You could also recognize growers in the categories of "widest individual leaf" and "longest individual leaf" at the end of the contest.

I'm going to cut a honking big cutting off of my Giant Luna strain Plant and grow it HUGE. I've got my eye on an inch wide branch end and I keep telling her what a good girl she is.
I'd like my prize to be a T-Shirt Please.
Announce the Contest already And I'll post it in the other forum for you.

Paradoxic?
Are you going to formally announce this Contest? I don't want to advertise it unless I have a rules page to point them to ...
If it HAS a Start date let us know ... so we can tell others.
Growers: start your scalpels!
(I've already targeted MY contest cutting ... From "Round Leaves" my pet Luna! )

Careful Sea Mac! Any more taunting and a rogue salvia grower will take a cutting from........your neck. Ive been eying a potential cutting too... ...Itll just bum me out to have to cut up my babies just as their growth rates are beginning to reach the speed of sound.

I'm planning to clone that Luna on Saturday anyways: I've only got that ONE Plant.
And she's 4 feet tall now and she can spare me a daughter. If the Contest is announced I'll have my (Well Documented) plant underway.
Besides: Jupe indicated that H/W grows fastest in his patch - and they were pushing the Luna's aside. If I choose a slower growing strain it handicaps against my better growing conditions ...
I only turn visible a couple of times a year. I generally don't announce when I'll appear, either. I'm a hard plant to get a cutting from because you're on the other side of that glass screen ...
I might be appearing at San Diego Comic-Con International this year as a Leprechaun: that gives you 4 days and Millions of Sq. Feet of exhibit halls to hunt me in.

Go On ....
Hummingcopters aren't carnivorous: the worse thing she would've done to you is to have given you a wet willie with that huge feathery forked tongue of hers!
(Hummingcopter - spitting earwax): "Ewwww what gross nectar! I won't feed on one of those again!"
Use your crampons next time you Salvia Shimmy: Or do what I do.
 Use a Ladder!

I think two cuttings should be able to be entered. One for height and one for overall mass output. It would make it interesting to follow each grow under the same conditions but different techniques on each plant. Height and growth should be judged on percent from the original size (IE: a 4" cutting with 2 nodes and 4 leaves grows into a 2' plant with tons of nodes and harvestable leaves wins over a 24" cutting that doubles in size but has few branches and leaves at the end ). Would allow us with small <6" cuttings a chance to make a nice looking indoor bush with just as much output as an outdoor single stemmed monster. Most of us don't have room for "Jack and the Beanstalk" type plants. Prizes are nice but not necessary, bragging rights will do and we all learn a lot in the process instead of everyone hiding their "secrets" . I'd say a pic of the entered cuttings with a piece of paper with the date, size and "Salviasource.org" written on it should be in every pic for publicity and make it easy to follow and not allow "old" pics. Maybe start with the cutting in front of your pc with the ss.org's homepage up so we know the date is legit, then update weekly or so so we can see the progress and tell it's the same cutting. Not that "we" would have cheaters but advertising prizes on other boards would bring in all types.

They eat bugs bugs and more bugs almost 80% of their diet!!! No falming cheetos either!!! ......Nectar is for energy!!!! Well, heres my rescue project..."Limp Noodle Strain"(LNS) 2008. .......found it out in the garden, I have no idea when it broke, maybe a few days ago, totally soft and limp, had to peep leaves apart to find tip.......see it in November, if it lives... and the second pic is of the two cuttings which had to be made.

Hmmmm, seeds that possess the DNA of a psychedelic mexican herb and a surfing green thumb Jupe X Blosser ...................................................................................... I like whats his face's idea*. There shouldnt be a required starting length (but there should be a limit). The judging should be purely subjective. * oh, his name is bayrat. good idea, bayrat

So this thing is starting on friday? We need a set of guidelines and a list of judging criteria. If i dont get some rules soon, im going to dissolve some polonium into a coffee mug full of water and enter into the contest a supersalvia
