Ok, I definitely want to have this contest but right now I dont have the time nor the energy to set it up. Sea Mac, I would be happy to let you take control but that would mean you can't enter the contest yourself. Would you be interested?

I think a good prize would be a Salvia Source T-Shirt...which I still need to design.

I can't: for 3 reasons ...

I'm still recovering from surgery: I'm full of stitches and I won't get them out until summertime. I'm Laid up.

Also: I don't have any time until this time next week - I might be on another vacation ... walkabout? With my ADHD organizing things is not exactly my strong suit ...

Lastly, and most importantly, I intend to grow a champion plant to KEEP in MY Garden and I'll reveal my latest techniques for rooting cuttings with it. You don't want to miss my detailed grow log over this special plant ... you know the quality of my illustrated tutorials already and people shouldn't be deprived of this rare opportunity to pick my brains ...

If Jupe isn't entering I suggest him: Or Arcy - he is a respected researcher in My book! If either of them don't plan to enter they can judge it ...

I'll get out of bed in the next couple of days and get a special cutting and lots of photos ... that's about all I can do!

Heres my feelings: I'm more an advisor here, than a member, and would feel akward doing anything but handing out  prizes,  maybe judging......or perhaps offering advice to people IN the contest...(privately or not)   Shocked

...I've always felt my skills lay in the direction of helping suffering people and plants.....so for me, a first place winner, would  be the person who saved a plant, after nearly killing it, or having to suffer with it for months and months and then it THRIVED under their care, and they knew just WHAT they did wrong...now thats a real winner!!!!!. Big time winner....

....guys like me and Carl?? We  should come in last haha Roll Eyes....these plants grow like weeds for us, unstoppable......unless we had a 1000% improvement!! Or did something REALLY special...."hey this little plant grows in full sun out in the concrete driveway, with the cactus"  WINNER WINNER!!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

In general contests work the best when ALL are rewarded, and for all the categories:

biggest, fastest growing, ugliest  (I win!!!).....most improved grower, most improved plant, hardest setup to grow in, best indoor, best hydro.....biggest goofball mistake....you  see where I'm going?  This is a good tribe, and I feel all should be rewarded.

I know this is sort of the politically correct way of doing things, but COMPETITION and salvia,,,those concepts, seem somewhat funny to me....(I come from the surfing underground, where contests were seen as evil)

anyways, I do have a cool idea, ,  for ANYONE  out there who wants to run with it. It could be used in conjunction with the contest, or just as a stand alone sort of idea....and its not particularly unusual, but perhaps the timeing is ripe, things regarding salvia are a bit weird out there right now.....(even here for me)

A SALVIA CALENDAR........

.current software lets you spit these things out of your own computer, pretty much, and you could add special dates...."Albert Hoffmans Huatla Trip", "first Aztec Plant Report....etc etc....

....or pretty much anything....(of course this idea morphs into the ENTHEOGEN CALENDAR , with a different plant for each month, and that is more complicated, but I'll bet both could actually be sold, if done on good stock, with cool pics.)

So....I had picked out 12 of my best pics to try and do this, but lost interest...

.(heck, I need tide calendars anyways)

.but the point is, that Salvia Source (or anyone here) could do this alot easier than a t-shirt.(or on a t-shirt, Iguess THAT tech has improved as well)...almost on demand....someone wants one, boom, print it out...I'm sure the tech guys here would have suggestiions on all this.

...ANYWAYS...... sorry I'm slow, its hot in Cali tonight.......

.anyone who wants to use ANY or ALL of  MY pictures, they are FREE.....they have no copyrights, nothing.....Siebert might use some too.....for his book...and some of Carls.....(and I've heard through the grapevine that Carl aka SEAmacalator) has THOUSANDS  of pics!!!...so he might want to chip in.....

anyhow....just a thought, heres the link....collect them all!!!

I like the way you are thinking Jupe. I was kinda so-so on the idea of a Salvia growing contest to be honest. Heres what I think we should do instead...the most interesting grow log. Now its more of an luck and appeal contest. Basically the idea would be people submit a new grow log (it can't be on the site already) with a interesting aspects. So things like an automated watering system, a strange location, or a cool grow chamber...the possibilities are endless.

What do you guys think?

I'm game ...

I'll start a new grow log and hope it is interesting to you all.

I got the new plant: it's in my bathtub right now and I got 40 photos to sort through.

My Luna cutting is 14" long by .5" wide and is a stunningly beautiful plant.

Potted: she is 12" above dirt Level! Just Born: One Foot Tall!

It's my new technique of "Waterpotting" that I'm going to show off: I'm depending upon it to raise this plant!
