Coffeesh0p is also pretty strong for "salvia divinorum" too, 8th (uk results), 11th (all results google.co.uk)

Pretty clear indicator of how busy you've been with building links though - yahoo can see 2400 incoming links to coffeesh0p , while salviasource about 540 incoming... which is reflected pretty much in the rankings

In case anyone doesn't know how to find that, you can go to http://search.yahoo.com and type "linkdomain:anydomain.com" , and then where it says "Inlinks -dropdown box-", select "Except from this domain" to get a kinda accurate idea of number/type of incomings...

Hey I think in another thread someone mentioned that it was impossible to get wikipedia links from the english salvia div page... how about some of the other European etc languages? And other wikis that mightn't be guarded so fiercely from external site links being added?

Edit: Actually, Paradoxic, while we're on the subject of alt text to increase ranking, could you change the alt text of my banner on your front page to "Salvia Divinorum and Cannabis Seeds", please? Right now it just says "Coffee sh0p".

Thanks a lot. Wink
Got you covered.

Its all good though, since we are link partners the higher my site goes in Google the higher yours will go and vice versa.

Absolutely, theres more than enough traffic out there for the both of you - its just a case of needing to push your way through the results to get on that first page. Not to mention that coffeesh0p has the UK market focus going on.

But yeah the net is a big place, while getting boatloads of visitors on a wide range of related phrases and topics can be pretty cool (especially for boosting forum activity etc), even just hitting the front page for a certain few phrases that you mightn;t even have considered can be a real boost.

Even things like common typos and regional spelling differences can really help out. Sometimes by accident! I wrote a short article about a piece of software once, late at night, and accidentally spelled its name wrong - then low and behold visitors started pouring in from google to that one page. I think it got about 100000 visitors or something over a six months before it dropped its number 1 ranking and slid to 2 or 3, which drastically reduced the number of visits that phrase brought my site. Those aren't massive numbers in the scheme of things, but considering it was a piece of freeware software that wasn't hugely popular, and the article took 5 mins to write, it was a real bonus.

One other handy website is Google Trends, where you can get an idea of ... search trends Smiley Surprise surprise.

Either for a single word or phrase, or to compare multiple words/topics/phrases - eg

Two typos, a comma out of place and a hash substituting an apostrophe. Not bad for two bottles of wine.

Firstly, excellent links/ideas, strangeworld - I never thought of "other" wikis. Actually, I was linked from the salvia divinorum article a long time ago, for my articles on growing and making extract. At that time, other sites that crawl wiki then made their own uneditable versions also copied my links. I'm also linked under the "Smart Shop" article.

It's also interesting to see the regional differences in my conquering of the internet, thanks for that.

And thanks paradoxic for the link.

Yup thats one of the added benefits of getting links from a wiki page, the wiki pages generally get copied all over the net given time, links and all.

Oh another keyword tool useful for getting a better idea of what people are actually searching for is

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

You can also use the alternate modes in the dropdown box to figure out which niche topics pay best as well.
