Ah I see those options now. I'm glad they have them, should be pretty sweet when SMF gets up and running.
Is there any better way to prevent spam guys from registering? A lot of forums I see there is very little spam, but at the same time there also like 6 moderators and like 2 global ones..so that's probably the main reason.
Another one with 0 spam since the beginning is the one where it asks a question to register (not the confirmation code, a separate one). And then in the original confirmation saying "I am over 13," it tells you the answer...so that could work.

At the Lyceaum we require an essay to register, and at the SalviaD_Alliance we ask them why they want to join. The SPAM-bots do not know how to deal with either of those things. It weeds out other types of riff raff too.

A suggestion if you ever become a massive forum: Charge 50p to sign up. Prevents bots and anyone who's not serious about joining. Not because of the money (what's 50p?) but the hassle putting in card details and such.
I think the forums at Something Awful do/did something similar.

Hmmm, I'm not sure about charging money, that'll definitely keep out spammers, but there are a lot of web surfers that probably won't even bother IMO.
Another thing I was curious about, when changing the board to SMF, will everything be the same? Or will we have to signup again, will all the posts be gone? Or is all this stuff stored in the SQL database? I'm just wondering what will stay and what won't.

No, there is a software that lets you easily convert, so yeah everything will be the same. The only error in the script was that it deleted the first character in everyones signature.
Is 50p like 50 cents or something, I've never heard of p? Yeah I wouldnt wanna charge, just because of the hassle of sending payments online a lot of people wouldnt do it. With SMF spam shouldnt be a problem at all.

It's all stored in your SQL database, but phpbb and smf use different tables, so you won't keep the users and posts if you just install smf. You might find some migration script from one to the other, to transfer everything automatically. My Drugs Discussion Forum uses smf and I much prefer it to phpbb.

Yeah thats what I meant theres a converter that does it all for you (converts the phpBB db to SMF db). Dont worry all the posts and stuff will be saved I've already rolled the stuff over.

The only touch up I would do is change the "New posts" and "no new posts" pictures next to each forum from the smf default to something more salviasource like.
OTherwise, great work!

Just place new graphics with the same name and Icon size (In Pixels) in the theme folder you are currently using ... Did you know you can choose the theme you see the board with from your profile?

Was it much of a task skinning the forum?
I've skinned a few phpbb forums in my time, so I've put my SMF ones off for literally over a year.

Naw! It was a breeze! The Custom themes my forum users can choose from were a snap to Install: any registered user can, by the default permissions for registered users, select from any installed theme for their custom look and feel configuration in their profile! Simply go to http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/ and browse through many choices! If you register here: http://sageseeds.info/smf/index.php you'll find several whimsical themes already installed to look over! How to Change your displayed theme: http://sageseeds.info/smf/index.php?topic=7.msg13 in SMF. Adding new themes is a Snap! And there is a Complete themes editor in the Admin panel! All parts are well commented and easily customizable: I did it!
