Most people use those big plastic soda bottles cut in half , they make a great humidity chamber because you can acclimate them more smoothly by unscrewing the cap before you  eventually completely remove it.

that setup you used on other plants doesnt work for salvia I suppose. I think its her hollow stem that makes her more difficult.  Big humidity chambers never worked good for me. Ziploc  gallon size works best. IMO

Thanks a bunch. It took long enough. I cant wait for them to be taller so I can chuck the small lights and just stick another T12 fixture or invest in one of those dual spectrum Mogul base CFL fixture

I want this one!

hello all!

I have been wondering about Salvia's growing behavior. If a cutting is placed in a very large pot, will salvia try to develop an extensive root system before pumping out new leaf growth? I know some plants (syrian rue, HBWR, P.Viridis) First show no signs of life until the root system is well established, is this the case with Salvia and is this why everybody grows salvia in very small pots ?

Thanks

Actually, it is not the fish "poo" that is high in nitrogen but the fish "pee". Because fish live in water they do not have diluted urine like we do, but instead release Urea (a more toxic and concentrated form of pee). Being that they live in water it is not a concern because the urea seeps out in the water as the fish goes about its business. The aquarium water will eventually have a high concentration of urea which your plants will love. Make sure your water is well oxygenated so you don't get fungus and other parasites.

same thing happened to me, I received 2 "cuttings" not rooted plants as was advertised. Further, mine came in a pitiful state and was placed in a hard clay medium. Sadly it seems many jerk offs have access to salvia and they frankly do not deserve to be blessed with such a plant. I would politely note to the vendor what you received and if he refuses to send you a replacement free of charge, make sure you let everybody know about their ways. It took mine more than 4 months to recuperate from the trauma.

Thanks guys. BTK is a concentrate that is meant to be applied to foliage, but it is a very useful soil aid. It makes 30 liters of non-concentrate solution, and (BTK & mosquito dunks ) control(s) a variety of pests including leaf rollers, fungus gnats, thrips, caterpillars, gypsy moths, spring and fall cankerworm, Spruce budworm, Jack Pine Budworm and many other insects especially those that lay eggs in the soil for their offspring to hatch into larvae.

For very aggressive pests that will not go away, Pyrethrin is a suggested solution. You should use caution when using pyrethrin, permethrin, tetramethrin, or anything that ends in *methrin. These do not have any known side effects on humans or most mammals except for permethrin, which has been found to cause feline sickness and death.
Permethrin is the same chemical that they use to kill lice and ticks on dogs, and as said by most vets, keep your dog away from your cats!!!

As a preventative method, a lot of professionals use a combination of insecticidal soap, neem and btk MIXED TOGETHER to control a possible outbreak. Most don't have to worry about this issue unless you're growing a farm of plants. But remember, it's a LOT easier to prevent an insect invasion than to consistently maintain it!!! We all live busy schedules, so lets get rid of these pricks for good Cheesy!

I've been using coco in combination with my soil for a LONG time.

It's great stuff, drastically decreases the need for watering.
I water my normal plants about once every 3-4 days, I water the coco plants ever 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. I wish I started my mothers out in coco, and all my babies, I wouldn't have to worry about taking prolonged 'holidays'.
