Homemade Salvia ice water hash

Hey guys.. a friend of mine just showed me this great guide for making your own homemade ice hash without having to use bubble bags and all that other expensive stuff.

Right now I'm experimenting and trying it on 2 oz of Salvia that I purchased, I don't know if it will work, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to experiment. I'll take pics and keep everyone updated on how it goes.

Has anyone here tried this before?

Almost positive it won't work.

Salvinorin A isn't particularly hydrophobic, and it doesn't dissolve in water (which, of course you want). It is, however, heavier than water, so it will sink to the bottom

Additionally when in it's impure form, as you would get straight from an extract, it would be bound to many of the waxes and chlorophylls, some of which might dissolve in the water, and other's not.

I'd just make 2g of 28x with your 2oz of leaf... trying this would likely lead to a loss of 30$ or so!

I only spent about $10 for the 2 oz, some guy was selling in bulk and trying to get rid of what he had.

It's worth a try I suppose.

Where'd you get it from?

Still, you can make over 50$ worth of extract from that 

I know it won't work, the reason bubble hash works is because D9THC creates a sticky film on top of the water. Salvia has no hydrophobic psychoactive oils... And it just won't work...

How do I start making an extract that will work then? It's already ground up and soaking in water.

If it's powdered there's not all that much you can do, I'm afraid.

But if it's still somewhat leafy, you could strain it, and keep the leaf... Then extract as normal

I don't have any chemicals required for a proper extraction, is there any way to extract it without using chemicals?

Well, I read that guide you linked to... And it's not the exact sort of extraction that I was thinking of. I'd assume that, if you did use some finely chopped (and NOT ground) leaf, it could very well work.

I'm going to have to try this now too...

Well, we need some way of seperating the trichomes (which Siebert has said carries the Salvinorin A) and the powder made during grounding... Could be difficult.

So what do you recommend that I do?

I'm thinking of doing the stirring a few extra times before I put it in the refrigerator.

How well did you powder it?

Well.. maybe about 1/4 of it is complete powder, the rest is finely chopped.

I think all of the powder fell to the bottom, but I guess when it dries it will still be smokable.

Ice hash making relies upon the trichomes remaining intact and the membrane around them being heavier than water, while the leaf material floats on water, so the trichomes sink to the bottom.  Also the trichomes are small enough to go through a sieve which catches the leaf dust.  I don't think it really has anything to do with dissolving or hydrophobia or anything like that, except that the hash stays separate from the water so you can mechanically separate it.
