Ever since experimenting with Salvia I've become so interested in the world and people and the way things interact with us, especcially medicines and other drugs. It's a very big topic for me to find out exactly how these chemicals are made and how exactly they affect us, and what goes on during the influence of the drug. Can anyone reccomend an easy to read book with lots of diagrams that I could purchase. Something about many different drugs and there affects and what synthesizes them and what is happening inside the body. I'm not looking for a how-to book but if anyone knows what I mean a link would be appreciated.

From what I've heard and read myself, these books should satisfy your need to immerse yourself in......drugs:
The Door of Perception and Heaven and Hell by Aldous Huxley
The Teachings of Don Juan by Carlos Castaneda
PiHKAL by Alexander Shulgin (as well as his other book, TiHKAL)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson (though void of diagrams an excellent read for the up and coming druggy)
Diary of a Drug Fiend by Aleister Crowley
Ofcourse, if youre looking to better understand consciousness (altered or natural) I would highly recommend Zen in the art of Archery by Eugene Herrigel--a quick read and a favorite of mine

I'm in the middle of "DMT The Spirit Molecule" by Rick Strassman right now which is, so far, really fascinating. Can't think of anything else to recommend right now off the top of my head besides what's been mentioned already.

If you have a basic understanding of chemistry, especially neurochemistry, I've found the best source is actually Wikipedia... It has tones of articles on drugs, their effects, and their pathways of metabolism.
