I was reading the paper in the Knowledge section about the localization of salvinorin-producing trichomes and I noticed it said they physically removed the trichomes from the abaxial leaf surface using adhesive tape and got about 50% of them.  This got me to wondering if it would be possible to kif salvia on a fine silkscreen to start with an already-concentrated material for sublingual use or further extraction.  I also wonder if this material would be sufficiently non-waxy to smoke directly, and how potent it would be (very potent I would presume, if it is possible to do it effectively).  It's another one of those things I will try when/if Sally gives me large amounts of leaf material that I can't use up personally.  If anyone has any comments I would love to hear them!

Actually, I was thinking the same thing to be honest. I make a "Kif" product with my extractions... I use a normal screen tec just like you would for other substances... And it produces some very potent material.

Only problem is that it burns pretty poorly... Pure salvinorin doesn't seem to want to burn very well, so you melt it and do a hotknife with it.

I wish we knew for SURE where Salvinorin A came from...

You mean you take your extract and grind it, then run it through a sieve? Or you're using unfortified leaves, then mixing extract with the kif?  I wouldn't want to do a hotknife of salvia, most everyone who reads these boards can probably figure out why.. hehehe.. high dose administered over a very short time = bad mojo for me... hehe..  Actually, I've never done a hotknife of anything... everything I smoke, I not only enjoy the effects, but the taste and feel of the smoke, and the ritualistic method in which I smoke it.  But I'm unusual that way. When I kif the salvia, I run my heavily fortified leaves (perhaps 50x) over an incredibly small sieve. The tiniest particles fall out, and that's what I call the "kif". Smiley

Are there any advantages to the kif besides microscopic particles?  And how do you do a hotknife exactly? Heat two knives with a torch then press them together and ... collect the smoke in a bag, or breathe it through a straw sitting right over the knives?  I'm pretty clueless on the details. Smiley

The advantages to kiffing are few and far between... However, those TINY particles fall between your pipe screen meshes, and you lose them... Therefore, collecting them and vaporizing them on knives saves a big portion of the active chemical.

To do a hotknife, I just sprinkle a bit of the powder on a knife, and heat the bottom of the knife up with a torch, and breathe through a cut up Bic Pen.

Would it be possible to do ice-water bubble hash extraction of salvia? I've heard it being done with a lot of herbs before.

Yeah, both salvinorin A and THC are found in the glandular trichomes of their respective plants. So kifing and bubble hash making...anything like that should work for both plants.

I wish we knew for SURE where Salvinorin A came from...
What do you mean...?
