hello,

I'm new here and wanted to ask about solvent recovery. SWIM did an extraction using Everclear and has yet to evaporate the solvent. I was going to suggest he make the evaporation device that I read about on this website and then the conversation turned to recovery of the solvent (alcohol). SWIM was wondering instead whether it would be possible to heat the mixture in a boiling flask immersed in water, and distill the alcohol vapors back into liquid for future use by means of a condenser. I told him I wasn't sure if the Salvinorin A would be harmed by heating it to the boiling point of alcohol (170 F) or slightly under. How much heat can Salvinorin A tolerate before it starts to be adversely affected ? Any thoughts on this that I could pass along to SWIM ?

Salvinorin A is most sensitive to UV radiation out of any of the normal conditions. HCL will wreak havok on it as well...

I've often heated the mixture up to around boiling, but not for all that long... generally around enough time to evaporate 30ml of IPA or ethanol.

A condenser is wicked for acetone extractions though.
