I had a friend over last week and upon seeing my s. divinorum plant the first thing she asked was "Are you growin' somethin' illegal in there?".  I seemed hard pressed to explain to her that it was just an ornamental sage.... AFAIK she would have had NO experience with this plant.... does s. divinorum seem to just whisper to people "Hey, there's something special about me"?

No, it's just strange for a person, especially a male, to grow a plant indoors for "ornamental" purposes Wink

I get it all the time.

Well gee, she didn't comment on my rubber tree plant. Tongue  I'm always shocked and a bit dismayed at all the activities that are supposedly not meant for straight men... I mean, is it really manly for your only interests to be sports, beer, potato chips, pickup trucks, and sex?  Where I live that's the case, but it's something I can't quite wrap my brain around.  Out of those the only ones I'm interested in are beer and sex.  (And I don't even drink beer anymore) For me science lectures, home-grown vegetables, and good gas mileage trump sports, chips, and trucks any day of the week.

Yeah I get it all the time as well...especially if your grow space looks technical or something. Using indoor lighting on a plant is suspecious because most people just grow plants outside or by a window. I doubt Sea Mac ever gets those kind of comments.

Hehehe it's in a huge planter on my kitchen table with a big CFL in my ceiling fan... not technical at all. Smiley

I know.  Roll Eyes Some people think that if you are a guy you should have a black thumb.  Next time just tell her that it is a new strain of Coleus.  Roll Eyes

I think people assume it's nor ornamental because it looks pretty ...ordinary.

Who'd want to keep something not classically appealing in their house?
