Today in the newspaper I see an article titled "Salvia the new marijuana." This immediatly pissed me off because I know Salvia is nothing like Cannabis.  I begin reading the article and it's actually on Florida. They are saying that 8 or so states have already banned it..(I think 11) and that 16 more are trying to ban it or have before. Florida is making it so any possesion results in a Felony and up to 5 years in jail... How insane? I sometimes begin to wonder what the hell is wrong with people.
I truly believe that Salvia is one of the safer drugs in society today. Think about it, after you take it, you dont feel sick.. sometimes a head ache.. but for me I seem to have a more keen sense for detail. You don't get depressed, and as for Brett killing himself, that's an awful theory...
In the paper it says a lot of things... It says many kids use it because it's legal (which isn't really false) but as soon as it's illegal, I wouldn't be surprised if more kids use it more recklessly because they don't wanna be caught and sometimes end up doing it in the wrong place... a very bad situation because more kids will be hurt. They also say that its like PCP or LSD and the trips last around an hour.. I've never experienced a trip that long... Another thing that is really shitty is that Brett got salvia on his autopsy but they found no trace of it in him at all... I mean.. I have a lot to say.. but I can't really figure out what to say...
Any New Yorkers out there? Is there work on a ban right now or is it still at what it was with that it didn't pass through.. not enough votes.. I mean.. I wish people would try something first.. They over exaggerate facts and take it really seriously.. I mean.. if it was dangerous and people were dying then yes.. I'd be all for banning it.. But I mean comeon.. when you do Salvia.. you lose coordination to the point of it being impossible for you to get in a car.. so no chance of killing people... Alcohol is more dangerous then Salvinorin A.. It's really shitty that they want to ban it.. Like someone has said on here.. the drug dealer doesnt ID
I just dont knoww.. Is New York in midst of banning it? This is a very silly topic of concern.. especcially in our times

As far as using while driving, I find that for about thirty minutes after I smoke I have wild thoughts and emotions and I'm extremely excitable.  I have almost run to the neighbors' house, I have run through my own house yelling "Help! Help! I need some help!" when there was no one in the house to hear me.  I can only imagine that adding trying to drive somewhere and not paying attention could possibly be added to that list.  So I put the chain on my front door and hide my car keys, just in case so I will at least have to be collected enough to remember them before I can get behind the wheel.  But yeah, I used to think it was ridiculous, but now I think someone could decide to go for a spin.  Especially if there is the feeling of an impending doom about to get them and they think they have to get in contact with humanity immediately.  That's my main need for a sitter right now, just cause when I'm coming out I am screaming inside, "I need PEOPLE NOW!!!"

But don't you agree that salvia is most likely less dangerous than alcohol? Hopefully the feds will open their eyes a little and realize that there is not as much danger as they think in this herb.

Yeah, I would think so, if you mean the actual intoxication leaves you completely powerless to open a door or turn the switch over. Smiley  Good luck even finding your gas pedal underneath the pulsing jellyfish angels...hehehe..

I have never tried actually driving while I'm in the afterglow, cause, well, I'm much more reasonable than that.  But I can imagine having a strong desire to do so.

Yes, Salvia is no where near as dangerous as alcohol, especially when it comes to driving. First of all Salvia is relatively short-acting. Maybe you are a little less coordinated for a bit after smoking, but I dont think its really that significant (although I would say a responsible user should wait at least an hour after using). Alcohol on the other hand removes your judgment and lasts for an extended period of time. I find our society incredibly contradictive because we say DONT DRINK AND DRIVE, but then we promote both individual transportation by car (you basically need a car to get anywhere in most cities) and alcohol. On top of alcohol you have all kinds of other over-the-counter drugs, prescriptions, and cell phones which I would consider just as or more dangerous to drive on than Salvia (not when you're all out tripping of course, but how would you even find the ignition in that state anyway?).

Hehehe there is a gas station where I work that has a teeny-tiny convenience store.  Just soda pop, cigarettes, a few snacks, and single beers.  Yeah.. I'M SURE those will make it into the fridge unopened... right....

Ya, we used to have drive up windows at the liqueur stores here in Cibola County, New Mexico. However, the put some restrictions on it now. The drivers have to, now, Park the car and get out to walk into the store to bey the booze that they are still likely to open up and start drinking while on the road.  Undecided

As for cell phone talking drivers, they scare me just as much as the drunk ones. I've even seen these idiots eating a donut and talking on a cell phone while driving. A phone in one hand and a donut in the other. Maybe a pinkie of one hand on the steering wheel the whole time.  Shocked

When newspapers run op-ed pieces they usually allow for rebuttal as well, have you considered writing to them and presenting the facts? To compare a hallucinogenic plant to MJ is disingenuous at best, and relies on the ignorance of the reader.

Thats a good point. We should be writing rebuttals to newspaper articles. Thats definitely a great way to fight bans and spread positive information about the plant.

I get very frustrated as well when I see outlandish things printed in the newspaper or on the internet, such as Salvia is the new MJ. I agree that we all should be writing articles educating the public on what Salvia is and does based on facts that are not exaggerated. Let's not leave it to just Daniel Seibert's page, but all start writing articles on responsible Salvia use.
