I'll post more updating the status of this bill later, if no one else has already done so, but looks like the media picked up something.  The big (and pretty ridiculous) note about this bill is that it contains an emergency clause and would become effective with the govenor's signature...

According to this article, the Bill has passed the Senate judiciary committee with a vote of 6-0, however, I am unsure as to whether this means it has passed entirely of just part of the way.

So both the Senate and the House of South Dakota passed bills against salvia, and through joint committee amendments and voting by both houses, the final bill has passed and now goes to the governor to sign (he has indicated he will sign the bill).

Oddly enough, this bill would only ban the possession of salvia, with a misdemeanor charge for possession of less than 2 ounces of Salvia or salvinorin A and a felony charge for possession of two or more ounces.  This bill does not ban the distribution of salvia - sort of a Catch-22.

But if you get caught with it, or selling it, you and/or both parties will face potential charges.

That sucks, though.
